The Bottom Freezer on my Scandinova FF8744 Frost Free has stopped working and the LED's are flashing. Could it be the T/Stat(how do i replace t/stat) and if so how can i be sure it is this and not the compressor. Top fridge is running fine still running (have not gone behind fridge/freezer yet as difficut to move).

Effectively, if only the bottom freezer is not working , it is rather unlikely being the compressor, while the most likely is a faulty freezer thermostat, or depending on the model freezer fan.

Also a possibility is that the evap system is not working properly, and that there is ice formation on the coils. This will put the condenser under stress , and may not produce sufficient cooling in the freezer sections.

Testing a termostat is not easy, you need to bypass it and see if the freezer works fine, this should be done by a technician.

My suggestion is doing a complete defrost, and checking and eventually cleaning the coils at the back of the fridge.

If that does not work, buy an extended warranty to cover the repair, then call a technician.

It is not the compressor. If the compressor was bad nothing would be cool at all. You would also hear a very annoying humming sound. I would check the Tstat and the fan. See if the fan is spinning at all or what it is doing. Your thermostat is located in one of two places. Either behind the dial to adjust your temperature inside the freezer or fridge. Or it will be noticiable on the top of the freezer next to the fan. You can check it with a multi meter by turning the temperature adjustment all the way up and seeing the volts. Your fridge might also have it in the temperature adjustment. I could tell you more the problem is that I need a model number. The FF8744 is no where to be located in any of the Scandinova manuals

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

As your particular model is not available in my country (to my understanding UK version made by Comets), I can only offer general ideas:

  • the refrigerator gets its cold air from the freezer through a fan/blower;
  • there are 2 temperature controller/settings;
  • normally, there is only 1 compressor;
  • if the compressor is still running, there would be a humming/vibration from the unit;
  • it maybe just a glitch in the controller. Since it would be necessary to unplug the unit to revert it to factory defaults, you may want to consider transferring food items to a second refrigerator/freezer.
Would appreciate postback on updates/developments. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

First try to reboot the system You can do this by unplugging the appliance for about 10-15 minutes and then plugging it back in. I dont think it is the compressor. The led light are flashing because an error has occured on the little motherboard in the appliance. It should reboot after unplugging just like rebooting a computer, hope this helps.

if it is a frost free type it could be froze up.look for frost on the bottom back inside wall of the freezer,if you find frost there one of three things have failed,the defrost timer,the defrost heater or the defrost t-stat.if this is the case you will need to call your repair service to check it for you.too much electronics on all this stuff today i think.if on frost,check the cond. coil be hind the toe plate under the doors.this needs to be cleaned every 3 or 4 months.hope this helps.

My refrigerator is not getting cold

Is the freezer freezing? Do you hear a fan motor running inside the freezer? If the freezer fan is working and the freezer is still getting cold, do you see allot of frost on the back wall of the freezer?

Freezer not cooling at all - t-stat or compressor would be where to check next

No fan running in freezer and freezer is cold - bad evaporator fan motor.

If fan is running and you have heavy frost on the back wall of freezer - unit is not defrosting. could be defrost timer or defrost t-stat

Beko fridge freezer. The interior light still comes on but both the fridge and freezer compartments aren't getting as cold as should (probably about only 20%)

hi there. well if its a standard fridge it could be 1- the stat 2-lack of refrigerant 3-or motor.difficult to check without a visual but if your condenser is nice and warm and the motor is not overheating then it could be the stat.either change it or turn off fridge bypass the stat wire and try.it will over freeze.(keep safety in mind first) if frost free then again condenser warm ,compressor not overhated then likely to b your defrost timer.(normally hiden near compressor at rear/good luck Ali

Model 106 56569400 - Freeze side appears to be Ok. Refrig side not cooling to set temp 37. Current temp is 55-60. Door appears to seal properly.

If you have heavy frost build up on the back wall of your freezer you have a defrost problem. One of three things. Defrost timer, Defrost T-stat or Defrost heater. Usually problem is with the T-stat. If no frost make sure the evap fan is blowing. You should be able to hear a fan noise when opening freezer. If no fan noise replace evap fan which is located half way up behind freezer wall. Good Luck

Whirlpool Model # GB2SHTXTS00 refrigerator not cooling. it has bottom freezer...coils in the freezer are icing up... I checked the heater, and stat ohmed ok.i ran the service test everything appeared...

Sounds like the defrost timer is not tracking the time properly. The unit needs to defrost once every 6-8 hrs. in order to work. Make sure the inside (evaporator) fan is running ok. If it rund for a few days and then warms up in the refrigerator section (coil iced), then the defrost timer is the culprit.

Kenmore fridge bottom freezer. Freezer is cold but fridge is warm

Sounds like the start of a defrost problem, open your freezer and see if the back wall has any frost on it. if so your evap coil is in-packed with ice and it won't be long till you start to lose cooling in the freezer also. If you don't have ice on the back wall check the evap fan motor to hear if it's running ( you should hear it when u open the freezer door or feel the air movement.) note: if the evap fan motor is not running that may also cause frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If the fan is not running remove the back wall and check the fan wires for 120 volts ac.if you have power replace the motor. Also with the back wall removed you can check the defrost t-stat and defrost element you should read a closed circuit on the heater and with the evap coil frozen you will also read a closed circuit on the t-stat to. If the defrost element or t-stat check bad replace that part, if they check good replace the defrost timer. you can hit the coil with a hair dryer to thaw it out till you get the part you need, that will buy you about 3 days. Good luck hope this helps you

Amana not cooling

Take the back cover off and look at the frost. If the frost is only at the bottom of the coils then you are low on R-12 or R-134 and the defrost t-stat is cutting out to quick. If the coils are well frosted then you have a bad t-stat.
