Keyboard don-t show the correct symbols

Example> To get @, I have to touch shift plus ''
If I touch shift and colon, I get instead this >
I mean, the special keyboards signs don-t work properly, like ! @ #$%¨&*()_+).
I have to figure out what combination gives me the symbol I want.
This happen when I put my Internationa l and regional settings as Brazilian, as I write in Portuguese from Brazil and need some special letters, as é, ç, ecc.

Thank you guys, but neither solutions solved. I am sure it is not a physical problem, like dirty keys, because it happens with all the numbers and functions keys. I had the same problem since I bought my laptop. I don-t have a localized keyboard, the one I use is the original and I dont want to use other than that. When I make combinations with the language& Regional settings, I get few keys correct but most of them don-t respond *(as you can see while I am typing... >/* *it was supposed to be a sad face....(

You may try bellow
1) put a USB keyboard if it works ok means keyboard manager IC chips ok, go next
2) take away laptop keyboard and pull out KB cable and clean the pins then plug back to test if stil error,
3) your KB some keys shortage inside by dirty or damped, try to clean or dry KB keys using hair dryer and brush, not fixed
final you might change your KB.

you may try more to make sure the trouble from hardware or software:

    1) go to bios setup input number at date, it is ok so no hardware error

    2) windows reginal language setting not 100% match your keyboard model, check install right international language

    3) windows system file damage you need to restore or reinstall it

Your keyboard setting in Control panel regional and language options is probably set to US International.
This option allow you to create every special character using combined keys see this page for MS instruction>
If you have a localized keybord (Portuguise, Brazilian or else) you can get the symbol corresponding with keys if you configure the exact keyboard instead of US international.
Of course for same language you can configure multiple keybord.
You can also use for every language the On screen Keyboard you get in Start/program/accessories/ accessibility

How to make the @ button work on a ne 522 series gateway laptop

Contact Gateway support and they will guide you on how to change keyboard settings so that the @ symbol works on the keyboard. Depending where you are from, the @ key for USA is located above the No. 2 key & UK is located next to the colon key, if shift 2 is pressed in UK then it may show @ key as american or vise versa

Ibm t30 keyboard stuck in odd mode

Hello,

You've activated Euro mode. This is toggled by pressing holding the Fn key plus an Fkey that has an icon in the same color as the lettering on the Fn key that looks like the Euro symbol. Press the Fn key plus the Euro key to toggle out of Euro mode.

Acer aspire 5720

hi,
your problem is because of the OS installation. the language and keyboard option is given during installation. the normal keyboard we use is in the US keyboard version. and the one you are using is in th UK version. this does not cause much probelm, once you know where the other symbols are located.. fpr example @ is not located above 2 but some where with , (coma) or . (full-stop) [ forgot the exact location ]

the problem can be solved if u re-install the OS... i doubt of any existing registry hack...

hope to get rated as helpful...

regards
bzoy
