I downloaded the updated 2EJY46USA BIOS from Lenovo. When I try to install it (run: C:\LENOVO\FLASH\2EJY46USA\WINPHLASH.EXE as per the accompanying directions, I get a message: 'can't load c:\lenovo\flash\2ejy46usa\phlashnt.sys' with a reference to needing administrator privileges and 'Access is denied. Error code 5'. I have them and am the only user on this computer. I run Windows 8 Pro with more than ample free HD and RAM. I tried turning the antivirus off, but it makes no difference. Any suggestions?

Your problem is hardware-related. Either memory or power supply.
Remove the memory and add back one at-a-time and boot to see which one (if any / either) is bad.
If not, the second culprit is the power supply, which would need to be replaced.
Hope this helps.

Always
get your drivers and specific software from the manufacturer of your
Laptop, Notebook or Desktop. If you were to log on to the
manufacturer's
web
site,
usually one is able to download if available, by model
number,
All
available Driver
downloads
as required.
If the driver is not
available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are
installing. This is the best way of ensuring up to
date drivers for your system and they are free of charge! There
are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer
supported. Some
manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed. I hope this helps.

Needless to say I am kicking myself, as I should have thought of that myself. Thank you for you suggestion, and it worked fine. I had only tried it using the Run command, but by going to the actual file using Explorer and doing what you suggested, all is now well. Thanks again.
