Wall fitting filter screen clogs

Started recently

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2013

The filter never used to clog and now the Legend II stops working every 2 or 3 days and I have to remove the screen at the pool wall QD and clean it out. What has changed to cause this inconvenience? Thanks for your help. Craig

Craig - your filter elements in your pool filter are probably ripped (one or more) allowing whatever it is filtering to come through. This could be leave particles, DE, pebbles - whatever is sucked through your filter. The filter (at the wall) is performing it's job, and stopping this from then entering your Jet Vac, and clogging it up also, worst case ruining the gears inside the Jet Vac.

Excellent answer, with good comments, Chuck. Two other kinds of Filters Craig may have: DE, or Sand.

  • If DE, need to look for torn grids or cracked / broken manifold.
  • If Sand, cracked / broken lateral drain assembly or stand pipe.
    • Deteriorated / mangled spider basket, if multi port filter valve, or piston Owings, if push pull valve
And I second the motion, "Good Job" filter screen, you are doing your job!

What is causing excessive debris in the wall fitting screen?

You have a filter problem. Debris is not supposed to get that far down the line, the screen is there to protect the insides of your cleaner from getting clogged. Open the filter and inspect all the elements and the manifold. There is a hole there somewhere. Good luck with it!

My Legend cleaner (8 yrs. old) starts off fine but after a few minutes runs very slowly. any ideas what may be causing this?

First check the metal screen inside the fitting that connects to the pool wall. Make sure it is clean. If there is no inline screen on the feed hose then the jets inside the pool cleaner could be clogging. If there is a screen that keeps getting clogged with debris(like every couple days) then there is a problem with your pool filter or multiport valve that is allowing dirt to pass into the pool cleaner and the pool. Also it could be the back-up valve hanging up(due to a bad bearing or bushing) The back-up valve is the large canister on the feed hose about 3-6 feet above the cleaner. Check for holes in the feed hose and in the cleaner tail.

How do you clean the polaris feed hose?

Where the hose connects to the wall you push the fitting in and turn it 1/4 turn then pull out. Inside the fitting is a screen that will clog up. Remove this and clean. If you have a cartridge filter this will need to be done after cleaning the filter. If you have another filter you may have a problem with the filter and will need to check this out. Good luck.

After running for 20 to 30 minutes, engine looses power and stops. Will start up again immediately. Recently replaced spark plug, air filter, fuel filter and an oil change.

This type of issue has 3 possible senerios. In 35 years, I have experienced each of these by themselves, or sometimes multiples at the same time. This is a tough issue, but can be resolved with enough patience and a test area.

#1 Fuel Related
Depending on make and model of mowers:
a) Fuel tank outlet plugged (some have a screen filter, some are 90' angle and plug with rust and debris inside the corner of fitting)
b) Fuel lines collapse when they are routed thru fasteners and between frame and seat decks
c) Fuel cap vent clogged
d) Fuel filter clogged
e) any fitting that has an orifice that can trap debris or rust will eventually become clogged
f) fitting on the side of the carburetor
g) some systems have a filter inside the line at the opening of the carb inlet
h) fuel pump
i) vacuum hoses to fuel pump
j) debris under inlet needle/seat on carb

#2 Ignition related issues due to time and heat
a) Flywheel looses magnetism (not too common, but does happen)
b) Ignition switch or circuit breaker overheating
c) wire connection on plug-ins to switch or wire harness
d) points/condensor breakdown
e) ignition/armature coil
f) spark plug wire
g) electronic trigger/coil overheat

#3 Exhaust Valve and/or sticking due to overheating
a) valve stem is coated with excess carbon
b) valve face and seat are worn and do not seat properly after becoming warm
c) valve clearance too tight

Zodiac pool cleaning head not working

Hi
Most people refer to the "In Pool Unit" as the Head...

To the OP, what do you mean not working?

That is so ambiguous of a question.
  • What is doing, what is not doing?
  • Is your 380 booster pump working/pumping water?
  • Are your hoses tangling?
  • Is main circulation pump on?
    • It needs to be, for your 380 sweep to work
If it is sluggish to barely moving, then do the easy thing - if you haven't as of yet, clean either the inline filter screen just off the wall fitting, or the finger screen filter in the wall adaptor fitting. A 1/4 turn will take it off the wall from the fitting, then the screen will be accessible.
If that is clogged, then your 380 will not work.

Good Luck

No oil to head

Either your oil pump is bad, the pick up is damaged or your screen is clogged.

drop the oil pan and take a look at the oil screen on the pick up tube or check the oil pressure reading.

Quick explanation of how the oil works in your motor:

When you start the engine, the oil pump sucks oil from the oil pan, pushes it through the oil filter to remove dirt, and then delivers motor oil to various engine parts such as the bearings and cylinder walls through oil channels in the engine.

So! Either the filter is REALLY plugged up or you have a bad oil pump.

Have you had something bad with oil on your vehicle? Has it ever been run dry? Has the filter been replaced recently?

AEG Lavamat 88840 update

Open up the top; check to see that the inlet tubes are firmly connected to the dispenser; possible one might have come loose. Plug off the wall socket first.

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.
