Question about Samsung PN50A550 50 in. Plasma TV

1 Answer

TV does not always recognize the DVD player

We have had this TV about one month and it almost never recognizes the DVD player. I hooked up the DVD player to another TV and it works fine. I have swapped the HDMI cables between the cable box & TV and the DVD & TV and both cables appear to work fine. I have also tried plugging the cable into a different HDMI port on the TV. Sometimes I get just a gray screen, sometimes a gray screen with DVD sound and no picture. Today it just showed a frozen image from the channel that was on before I tried to swirch to the DVD. Can anyone help ? Thank you

That's a firmware problem where your tv's firmware does not handshake with your dvd's firmware. This could be from your dvd's software being to old for your tv to understand it. HDMI (TDMS Technology) still has Alot of catching up too do with 3rd generation tv's. Alot of HDMI devices still have the first gen software loaded into them. So a tv after 2005 won't work with HDMI from 2003 (1st gen). Most tv's made after 2007 have software that's "backward compatible" so they will work with first gen HDMI.

How does your tv perform outside this problem???

What kind of receiver? Do you have anything else like DVD player going thru receiver? My receiver has 3 hdmi in and 1 out (to tv) so all those equipment would just go to "hdmi" on tv.
Another way to do it is put your tv on exterior audio... for all sound to go thru your receiver.

My TV doesn't recognize my dvd player. The TV is new-panasonic viera TCP42GT25. The dvd player is a toshiba-less than a year old.

you shuld check the cable you are connecting. may be there is some fault that is restraining it from recognizing. if the cable is ok check whether the connections made are ok or not. if that too is perfect check for the connecting sockets. check in tv as well as dvd player. change the faulty socket. hope your problem will be solved.

I can't get my emerson lcd tv to recognize a dvd player hooked up to Video 2 component jacks. What do I do?

Are you using RED/BLUE/GREEN cable? Some DVD player will have to activate the Component output (or select either composite video out or component video out). I would ty using the composite video (yellow) cable first to see if you can get the picture through your TV. Post bak what you find.

Having a hard time hooking up dvd

If you are using HDMI connectors then you need to go into the menu of the tv and select one for your device. Make sure it is recognizing it. Some TVs default to one HDMI port when there are several. Check them to make sure it is 'recognizing' the port you are using.

I'm trying to get my dvd recorder and vcr hooked up to my new flat screen tv. How do I connect them and what channel do I put my tv on (flatscreens don't have channel 3 or 4) to recognize the dvd recorder...

DVD players do not connect using regular cable connections Your flat screen TV should have separate Audio and Video connections. These are the connections that you should use to connect your VCR and DVD player. If you have a combo unit, that is a single unit that has both DVD and VHS in one box, you might be able to get your VCR to work on the cable connection. However your DVD will not be able to work as the cable connection doesn't allow enough information to pass through. If you go to your local Audio Video store and tell them what you want to connect they should have the cables you need for less than $10.00. Good luck.

Television is not recognizing HDMI inputs

there is a possibility that there might have been a power surge sent over hdmi into the hdmi board on the tv. if on your model the hdmi board is seperate from the sine board then youll have a cheap replacement if not its gonna cost you roughly 300-400 is my guess.

A toshiba SD-37VSR DVD player that the TV will not recognize

if you are using the hdmi or DVI ports you need to make sure that both the player and tv are HDCP compliant (it will say on the box usually) otherwise, try using a different output from the player going into the tv. (try the composit or component instead of the digital outputs)
