How do I open the back of a nuvi 200

I have a nuvi 200 and the receiving hole for the car charger is loose and no longer makes a good connection. Can the back be opened and the USB receiving hole be glued in place?

I would not risk taking your Nuvi apart. You risk tearing the LCD display flex cable. The USB port needs to be replaced or resoldered and the solder connections are not much wider than the width of a hair. A standard soldering iron is too big to resolder the connections.

At the backside of the device, below the sticker, there are 2 very very small screws. You have to loosen these with a special screwdriver.

I was able to successfully repair this problem with a standard soldering iron.  Be careful when opening the case so as not to tear the cable mentioned above.  It is not necessary to solder the individual pin connectors, though.  Simply resolder the back and sides to reconnect the USB connector to the board.

How do you shut the garmin nuvi 200 down I can't get it to shut off

Plug it to your power charger (connected to the el-net, of course). After the map loading has completed and you can start using it, unplug from power. A dialog box will pop up and ask you either to turn it off or to continue using it on. Choose to turn it off.

You will not be able to turn it completely off as long as it's connected to either a computer or a charger.

or you on/off push button is not working and needs to be repaired.

On my nuvi 200 the push button is a bit loose, and it easly turns on when I carry it in my pocket. Some adhecive tape will keep the button in place.

My Nuvi 200 will not charge and the USB port

My condolences. I would suggest you plug the unit in to your computer's USB port using an appropriate data cable (in case you no longer have the Garmin data cable, there are lots of devices, including cameras, that use such a cable with the large USB plug at one end and the mini-USB at the other). That would give you a handle on where the fault lies -- in the auto charger cable itself vs the nuvi's socket. If the nuvi charges from your computer, you're halfway home; if not, I suspect the cost of repairing the nuvi's USB jack could exceed the cost of a replacement unit.

Garmin Nuvi 200 - pic if a sat nat connected to computer whenever I charge to the cig lighter? It had been fine for 6 months now recently come up. Do I need an upgrade or new charger?

I recommend the update, since it is the free alternative of these choices.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Have a phone charger 12 volt that fits and charges the nuvi 200 but with it plugged in it wont show anything but a computer and nuvi on screen. unplug and it works but only for a while til needs a new...

thats because the phone charger is wired different to the gps charger , u need a genuine charger, if when pluged into pc it takes longer to charge, best to have gps turned off while charging from pc..... if it still does not work/ hold charge battery in unit gone , caused by being in active for over 3 months

Garmin nivi 200 won,t turn on

well if the plug is not making contact it cant recharge. you need to have it repaired and that may well be costly as it will require a new motherboard. Parts are no longer soldered or repaired The motherboard will be repalaced and the basic board is ^$90 the labour 1.5 hrs o 2 hrs minimum at $95 I am sure you will be able to buy a new model for the same cost

Garmin charger problems

19A259741 is the serial number. The model number should be to the left of that on the decal label. It's sounds like you have a Nuvi 2xx series.

The mini-USB jack is loose. Either is has come loose from the board or the connections within the jack are loose from everyday wear and tear (use).

If the jack is loose from the board and it needs to be resoldered or replaced if the jack is worn out.

My Garmin Nuvi (200 I think) freezes..

My recomendation is to use the original accesory for cigarete lighter. I'll give you an example: when I connect my Nuvi 200 to any other USB cable (computer or home charger) its behaviour is like you said - it "says" that is connected to a computer and remains in stand by. But when I connect it to cigarette lighter (but note - the original one) the nuvi 200 recognize it as a car power source and works. The battery symbol disappear from screen and it works perfectly. When I turn off the engine or simply unplug the device from cigarette lighter (not from nuvi !) it recognizez that and ask me if I want tu turn it off on remains on on own battery. If I make no option the nuvi will turn off automatically after some seconds. So it recognize perfectly the car adapter and its behaviour is adapted to a car.
