Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer
My Kenmore 90 series wash machine stopped working and made a loud sound. I had the repair man out to replace the motor coupler that was broken. After the repair man left I tried a load of laundry and the spin cycle could not spin quickly enough to get the water out. Spins great without a load. Also when in the spin cycle is does give a humming noise. What could be the problem? The man at the repair office told me to try a few moderate loads first before they would come out but it would probably cost more money to fix something else which he is guess could be the clutch. What do you think it is and do you know of any video on the internet or step by step instructions how to replace the part that may be broken?
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but it does sounds like it's the clutch. The clutch is not engaging fully and letting basket is not spinning enough. To repair this you have to remove the transmission which if you do not know what you are doing, you may do more damage then good.
A clutch job on a top load, would run approx $250-300 parts and labour. It's would cost just about the same to replace the machine.
Hope this helps. Good luck
