Dell 5650 Speakers on Gateway DX4200

I just bought a new Gateway and have tried using my Dell 5650 speaker system. What do I need to do to get these to work? Do I need to download driver? How do I plug them in right? I have tried different ways at no avail. PLEASE HELP!

First let's assume the speakers work because you got them from another system and they were fine? Go to My Computer and right click it, choose Properties, then the Hardware tab.Click Device Manager, then the + sign next to Sound, video and game controllers if it isn't already expanded. If it IS already expanded, chances are there may be a yellow exclamation point or question mark next to your audio. If so, right click that item and choose Update Driver.

Have you got actual sound coming from the PC when it boots up? It plays the Windows theme and all?

The speakers should have a stereo jack on a wire which would be the out put, if it is a surround sound speaker system then it most likely will have a few wires, if your computer has only one stereo jack input then the green cable would be the one you would connect in most cases, if it has 3 or 6 then you would follow the colour on the jacks and match them up with the input on your computer. if you have done all this and doesnt work check if there is audio icon in the bottom left task bar and if you can use other speakers, if you can everthing should work, if not then check for drivers online.

What you need is a splitter and not an adapter. Forget the colors yellow, green, black. They are not relevant. The business end of those colors occur inside the box. Dell manufactured these "bass ackwards". You need a 3-way headphone splitter and that will solve your problem. I bought a RadioShack Headphone Splitter Cable model 42-2458. Hope this helps. Just plug into headphone outlet

Is there a way to connect my Dell MMS 5650 speakers to a Macbook Pro laptop or a wireless router? Where can I find cables for converting? Thanks!

The speakers should directly connect to the "line-out" socket on your Macbook computer, without any need for adapters.

I have _never_ seen a wireless router that had _any_ "audio" capability -- what you're asking for seems to be unreasonable.

Any "Dollar Store" or the "big-box" stores (such as Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Future Shop, Wal-Mart) should have adapter-cables.

No sound, cenral and rear speakers Dell 5650 speakers

the surround sound speakers connect to the computer by way of three connectors. the system should have come with an adapter that plugs all three connectors into one green connector. if you color match that green connector into the computer you should get sound out of the central and rear speakers. not sure if the surround sound will work correctly for movies, but you should get sound

Dell 5650 speaker wire adapter

As I understand it, this adapter is used ONLY to adapt a standard 2-channel stereo output to the 3, 1/8" plugs of the Dell 5650 5.1 system. These 3 plugs would normally plug into the front, rear, and center/sub outputs on a computer designed to output 5.1 channel sound.

To make this clear, what this means is that the output you get from your 2-channel stereo system, using this adapter with the Dell 5650 5.1 system, will NOT be full 5.1 surround sound...it will be 2-channel stereo signals intermixed so that it plays from the 5650 system through the Dell amplifiers and speakers...nothing more.

This cannot be over-emphasized. The adapter does NOT create true 5.1 sound from a 2-channel stereo output system.

If you are hoping to get true 5.1 output from a 2-channel stereo system, you will be disappointed.

All this adapter likely does is split/mix some of the 2-channel signal into the rear channel, and split/mix some of the SAME 2-channel signal into the center-sub channel, just so you will get some output from those speakers. There may be some low-pass filtering for the sub-woofer input.

It is almost certainly a very simple passive circuit consisting of resistors, capacitors, and possibly an audio transformer or two.

Look for circuit on Do-It-Yourself electronic sites and build it yourself...or you're almost certain to be ripped-off.
