Question about ATI TV Wonder Video Capture

Open Question

TV-Wonder HD 650 PCI "No tv tuner device"

This card came with the Remote Wonder Plus.
So its a ATI TV Wonder HD 650 PCI with Remote Wonder Plus.
I got this at Best Buy a few months back and it worked great when I 1st put it in.
I then had to format and couldnt get it to find channels just static, I couldnt figure out the issue so I just left it as is uninstalled and removed the card putit back int he box but never got around to returning it.

Here I am again another format or 2 later and trying to get this thing to work again. This issue has happened twice this beign the 2nd time. I put the card in Windows sees it as a "PCI Device" finds new hardware. I install the software on the CD run CMC it says "No tv tuner device" when I click TV.

I update the drivers reboot get the same thing and windows still sees it as new hardware "PCI device". I checked my device manager and its in there as a yellow ? ! "PCI Device". Tried to install with windows new hardware wizard that couldnt find anything.

Does anyone know whats up with this? is there something Ive done wrong?
This samething happened to me before and I thought since it was a new install of windows with SP3 I would be good to go but im not.

Also I have tried reinstalling all the software/drivers and removing re seating/installing the card it self.

I was getting the same problem when I first installed the same card. The conclusion I came to was that the Catalyst Media Center was ****. The card works perfectly fine in Windows Media Center.

I did not have the errors you describe in the device manager, though. The card has always been recognized by windows. I am using Windows Ultimate x64, however, and went and downloaded the appropriate x64 Vista driver updates from the AMD site.

When you watch TV with a Cable Box or a Dish Network Box you are using a tuner inside that box. The signal that comes out of that box only contains one channel, the one you're tuned to. So you can take the output of the Dish Box and send it into your ATI tuner card, but you cannot change the channel to anything other than what the DIsh Box is set to. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is. I use a Hauppague tuner card that has what's called an "IR Blaster". By hooking this device up to my Cable Box and I can used my computer to change the channel on the Cable Box itself.

If you had cable, you could run the cable into the TV tuner and watch the analog channels. I have Time Warner in my area and they still broadcast about 50 channels in analog. I cannot use the tuner card to watch any of the digital channels. This probably does not help you, but I thought you might like to know.

I want you to know that I don't get paid to offer these suggestions. I know it's a strange hobby, but I like to help when I can. Even though I cannot solve your problem I hope I provided helpful information and you will give this solution a positive rating. I've noticed that many times this type of question goes unanswered because nobody wants to get a bad rating when a problem has no solution. Thanks and good luck.

Sometimes laptop graphic cards don't support video overlay, a feature needed to display TV on the windows graphic environment.

I guess you're using the USB version and not the PCI card you selected here at fix ya.

SOURCE: Media Center can't find digital TV channels for TV Wonder HD 600

Just to make sure, you do have analog tuners setup right?  Media Center 2005 requires analog tuners be working before digital tuners are allowed.

PAL VHS format

I'm not sure I understand your problem. What are you using that is PAL? If your VHS tapes are in PAL then the TV Wonder card, which can only handle NTSC format, will not produce a picture and you will not be able to transfer your movies. If they are in NTSC (U.S. or ***) then you should be able to transfer them just fine if you are using a computer from the same region. If you are using a computer from a different region (e.g. EUR) then this card is not your best solution.
