SOURCE: vw golf has had diagnostic check found fault code P0023

This trouble code is related to a faulty camshaft sensor or to be more precise the camshaft position actuator circuit is open. There are 2 camshaft sensors on the Golf and the camshaft sensor that this code relates to is behind the timing belt. This code indicates that the solenoid that adjusts the cam timing has an issue - the circuit is open. The actuator itself may be faulty or if you are lucky it may be wiring related or be a bad connection to the actuator.

2002 vw jetta, gas smell & shaking after 60mph

Well if the check engine light is on then there is something wrong, now you need the engine control module scanned for fault codes to begin to understand the problem that turned the light on, you need an OBD2 code reader (about $35.00) as a minimum to read the codes.

It sounds as if your vehicle may have severe water damage to the engine. The engine sensors on the golf are suseptable to water damage and can result in epc light that you are seeing on your dash, or so i was told by VW. I replaced all the sensors, alternator and the computer on my original engine, but this action didnt fix the problem. So i bit the bullet and replaced the engine, and haven't had a problem since. If you do the labor yourself it can be done as cheap as $4000. I hope this helps mate.

good luck

What does a yellow enginge warning light indicate?

It indicates that the vehicle's computer has recorded a code in the memory. It will be a malfunction code of some sort. A code reader tool is connected to the diagnostic connector under the dash to retrieve the code, which gives information as to which engine management system has experienced a malfunction.

My vw golf tdi suffered a loss of powere whilst driving then followed with what sounds like a holed exhaust from the front. It wont go over 30mph and there are no warning lights on the dash.

Must be a broken cat converter. The platinum honeycomb core is broken into several pieces and clogging the exhaust pipe preventing you to go more than 45 mph. Try hitting it with a rubber mallet and listen if any pieces rattling inside. If it sounds like pebbles inside, it's time to replace it.

VW Golf 51 Plate Oil Pressure Indicator Light

Hi.
The "oil light" measures the oil pressure in the engine, not the oil level in the sump. I would not drive it an inch until I had it checked by a competent mechanic. New engines are expensive!

If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my knowledge / guessing skills. If they do not, please add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D
