Canon iP90 stopped printing in BLACK

The black ink started fading 2 days ago. So I cleaned and deep cleaned but the problem just got worse to the point where it does not print in black anyone. I even changed out the print cartridge TWICE thinking I have bad cartridges, but it did not solve the problem.

Can someone please help?

Thanks.

SLHave the same problem. Canon iP 90 stopped printing black at all. The printheads are moving and the paper is moving through the printer just as it would in a successful printing action, but there is nothing on the paper. The sheet of paper comes out completely blank. There is not even a smear of black to see. Can you help?

Hi... it might be that you need some time to let the ink absorb into the pads in the print heads ... this can take between a few hours and a day... Must be frustrating to deep clean three times and just seem that you are wasting ink cartridges, my "solution" would be to give it time or possibly clean the print heads manually.. hope it will solve it out..

thank u!!

hi u can change the Ink usage settings. Go into your printer properties, select maintenance tab and click on the Ink Usage Control button.Tick "Use Composite Black" then ok. This will enable you to print out your docs at least....

There is only two thing you can do ...
+ Clean the head of the cartridge and the bock which hold the cartridge with dry cloth. Also check for any dirt or bit of paper inside the printer.
+ Reset the printer to factory settings, by going into the menu .. setting.
you cannot repair the printer by yourself, have to contact the service center, if the issue is not resolved.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Unfortunately, if deep cleaning would not correct the problem, then the print head is already faulty. Repeated cleaning would only waste ink and add to your losses. Might I suggest the use of a cleaning cartridge if one is available from your ink supplier. This is a special ink cartridge that has a cleaning solution. It normally is cheaper than regular ink.

If again a no-go, then consider head replacement. You can get a quote from Canon itself (1-800-ok-canon) or from an authrozied service center.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

  1. Do a print head cleaning
  2. Print the nozzle check pattern
  3. - repeat steps 1-2 up to two times -
  4. Do a print head Deep Cleaning (Note: the Print Head Deep Cleaning Procedure uses a lot of ink)
  5. Print the nozzle check pattern (This will print a test page using all nozzles in the print head)
  6. - repeat steps 3-4 up to two times -
The printhead can also become clogged or blocked with paper debris or solidified ink. If your print quality is poor or your printer will not print at all, it may be time to change your printhead.

You probably need a new printhead, but there is also a new update for that machine to help clean the black part of the printhead. QY6-0052-000 is the printhead #

Replaced black ink, now it only prints in color -

If cleaning doesn't help, you may need a shop, there's a firmware update that helps with black printhead cleaning, try a couple of deep cleans first, you can select just black deep cleaning.

Sounds like the printhead is plugged on the black side. A new printhead is #qy6-0052-000 around $40.00. That model also needs a firmware update to help it clean the printhead better.

IP90 WONT PRINT BLACK

I had this problem recently with my IP90. Both the black and color heads were clogged. After running the "canned" routines several times to clean the heads and deep clean the heads...still didn't help...here's what I did:

1. open the top lid to have the cartridges that are inserted in the print head move to the middle of the printer.
2. remove both cartridges
3. What is left there is the print head holder. Slightly move it to the right and gently lift the print head lock.
4. Grasp the print head and lift it out of the tank.
5. Have several paper towels hand and know that you will have color and bw ink on your fingers
6. Put the print head on the paper towel
7. Pour rubbing alcohol on the blk and color heads and let them sit of about 10-15 minutes.
8. after that dry the heads and re-insert them in the printer
9. I put new cartridges in the printer and ran clean and deep clean a few times.
10. My color and black and white print came right back!

Hope this helps.

hi karen,
If you are sure that the ink is present, there two other possibilities: Purge unit work properly so the ink cannot flow down from ink tank or Logic board of you printer is faulty.

Canon IP90 portable . No ink printing.

Have you performed a nozzle test? If one or more of the colors is missing when you do the nozzle test, the printhead itself is likely in need of replacement.

Before considering replacment, perform a clean on the printer. Due to variations between mac and pc, please see your documentation / support files on how to perform the clean on your printer.

After performing the clean, again perform the nozzle check to see if the problem is resolved.

If still not resolved, remove and re-install any cartridges you recently replaced to make certain they are installed correctly.

Canon iP90 Printer Ink Issue

I have had the same issue with my iP90.  I think this results from the black ink nozzle becoming clogged.  I was able to get mine to print by cleaning the nozzles. To clean the print nozzles open the Canon IJ Printer Utility, select the printer from the list of available printers and click the maintenance button.  Then, select a cleaning or deep cleaning cycle.
