The top 1/2" of the thick vertical bars in the nozzle test pattern are smudged toward the right and slight gray smudges appear every 2 inches in the grid. It's like something is smearing the perfectly good print. I already cleaned the nozzles, deep cleaned, and cleaned the roller, but I haven't touched anything inside to manually clean it.

SOURCE: Printing anything in black comes out with horizontal blank lines

Have you tried updating the printer driver (first uninstall the existing driver and make sure you have the latest one already saved to your PC before starting). I don't think your current one has mysteriously misbehaved, I suspect that it has been corrupted in some way (a new download may have done something to a critical part of the driver). By deleting and re-installing you are "refreshing" everything. Good luck!

It's al black horizontal lines/smudges over the printed page. How to cean this?

Black Horizontal Lines are normally caused by a Light Burnt Drum.

The drum in built into the toner cartridge for this machine so replacing the cartridge will fix the problem.

Unwanted colour lines on prints

It may be time for a new printer. Colored lines are often an indicator that the printhead is worn out. Dark smudges on the back of the print are likely just a need for cleaning the inside.

There is a horizontal line grey in color

If this a P2035 printer using a toner cart with a drum in it. The drum has been exposed to light or has a smudge on it. take the cart out and look at the drum. This is a round light blue tube located at the bottom of the cart. It is the drum because it is the only thing in the printer that will print a defect three times on the paper. You could also print about 0 black sheets of paper through the printer and it will go away. This is because the drum coating is in layers like an onion. You must get rid of the exposed layer to get to on that has not been exposed to light.

3 black smudge horizontal lines on prints

Your brother can send faxes without printing the pages try your computer just you should download the driver.

You can download the driver from this link: " http://download.cnet.com/Brother-MFC-8220-USB/3000-2118_4-65318.html ".

About the lines which appear on the print, you will have to buy a Drum unit for your Brother 575, because the drum cleaning blade has quit working and there is no other way to fix this only by putting a new drum unit.

note:
the drum unit is different from the toner cartridge, but if you search good you can find them together for lower price.

Color lines/dashes at top and middle of page when printing.

Amand321,

Your problem lies with the fact that you manually refilled your cartridges. This is not recommended by any technician I know and your solution is in the replacement of all your cartridges with genuine brother consumables. It is going to be expencive, but it is the only real solution.
