I need more speed

I have a Toshiba Tecra A7-S712 with a 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 and would like to upgrade to a minimum 2.4 Ghz processor to operate a 2009 CAD program and Quickbooks 2009.

Okay -- the CAD software does use more memory, I am upgrading from 512 to 1 or 2 gig of ram. However, Quickbooks will not sopport 2009 with out a processor speed of 2.4Ghz minimum and currently I only have 1.83GHz

CAD programs tend to you really rack up memory. How much ram are you using? What type of video card? Those two thing are very important. You can tweak both the vcard and the ram. Little heads up though this will make your laptop run much hotter.

Well, thats no problem, and its easy doen...BUT i recomend you to start with upgrade the memory. In the spec of your laptop it says that there is 512mb memory, and that your laptop supports 4gb of memory. Im sure that you will need ever mb of that max memory if you want to run a cad program on your laptop, you need the memory more then you need the differns betwin 1,83 and 2,4 cpu that you want. Best is for sure t upgrade both to max, but if you have to choise one, take the memory!

Here is all you want to know about your laptop, including all avalible drivers (if you need any)

Good luck to you

Well, i still sugest that you uppgrade the memory to max, and if the cad program requries an 2.4 cpu then you should upgrade the cpu to, but still you gona need the max of memory for running a cad program smooth.

Thank you for the rating and i wish you good luck with your upgrading and your cad program:)

I would max out my memory before i would buy another processor. if your mem is maxed out at this time, try XP smoker. its a really good optimizer geared for windows. it will make your cpu 3 times as fast as the current processing rate you are experiencing now.

if you max your mem out. this should compensate for the lack of processor speed. the duo core will run this quickbooks in tandem with your maxed out memory. windows can recognize up to 4 gigs of mem.

I have been given a acer aspire L320 BUT THERE IS NOT A PROCESSOR IN IT. what i want to know is what processor fits.it

The Acer Aspire L320 can take 3 different processors

1. Intel Core 2 Duo

Dual Core chip with speeds from 1.8Ghz to 3.3 Ghz

2. Intel Celeron D

Dual Core chip with speeds from 1.6Ghz to 2.7Ghz

3. Intel Pentium 4

Single core chip with speeds from 1.3Ghz to 3.8Ghz

The Core 2 Duo 3.3 Ghz is the most expensive and Pentium 4 1.3 Ghz the cheapest.

Some more information is available on the Intel website, links are below:

Can i up grade my single core cpu pen4 550 3,4GHz to a Quad core or dual core either one would help

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

CONFUSION WITH INTEL CORE DUO AND INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE!

You are worrying about nothing.

Intel Pentium Dual Core and Intel Celeron Dual Core are both Intel Core Dual processors.

The performance rate is mesured compared to a single core processor so your 2.2GHz dual core will do the same amount of work as a 4.95GHz single core.

Varies by specifications
Processor / Speed
Intel Celeron mobile processor 530/540/550 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.73/1.86/2 GHz, 533 MHz FSB), supporting Intel 64 architecture
if you have a 2 Ghz processor installed, you will have to replace the motherboard to go with a faster CPU.. which will be spendy..
Hope this helps

Uppgrade to a faster processor?

Hi
Pentuim D is a processor that has 2 x cpu in one and a core 2 duo has 2 cpu's plus 1 smart core bigger cache
you can only upgrade to a E2140 or E2180 processor on that motherboard
OR replace the board with a newer type

If you want to work the actual speed for the processor of a dual core take the speed for example dual core 1.8 x 2.1 =3.78 GHz
Core 2 Duo  1.8 x 2.4 = 4.32 GHz
