The piece where you put your bobbin on to wind, has not been released. It is still up against the bobbin winder, pull it back and you button will work.

Singer 4423, timing out, what line up with what

I don't think it's a major timing issue, so don't panic. Take a look at your selected stitch pattern selector and set for straight stitch, and set Tension at 3-4. Width: 4. Length: 4. Make sure presser foot Down when you rethread machine so the tesion disks open up to locate thread. Always hold thread taut when "feeling" for tension slot. Insert new needle. Needle goes all the way up into needle clamp as far as it can possibly go, FLAT side needle toward needle bar and more rounded side needle facing you. Leave 6" tail. Hold thread toward you as you turn hand wheel toward you so needle can make a loop with bobbin thread. Make sure bobbin thread isn't hanging down on or across bobbin! Make sure thread in bobbin has wound evenly - good quality thread ideal! Clean bobbin area and feed dogs for broken, loose threads and lint. Always use needles appropriate size for weight of fabric. I suggest walking away from machine, taking deep, cleansing breadth, humming a favorite tune, then doing above and see how it goes! Soon your machine will be humming happily along with you. Hope these suggestions help. Jimmy

My machine is new and worked briefly but now . . . . the machine is threaded correctly and the bobbin is placed correctly. When turning the knob for the initial pick up of the bobbin thread, it does not...

You have described your problem just fine. Have you just changed the needle in your machine? If so, check it is in the right way, you want the flat shank to the back.

The needle has a scarf (scoop out) at the back - if it is facing to the front then the rotary hook (bit that goes around the bobbin and catches the top thread) can't catch the needle thread behind the needle.

Also check needle is fully up into the housing, this could also cause problem.

I'd suggest that you visit and check out the pages on general sewing machine use, care and threading up, lots of helpful pictures and information which may be of assistance to you.

If it isn't your needle backwards (very easy to get wrong, happens all the time), then the timing could be out, which isn't so easy, but as its new I'd be very suprised if this was the fault. Just check needle, make sure top and bottom threads are threaded correctly and have another go. Also, remember to turn flywheel towards you.

I have a brother PC-8200. The lcd screen is out of alignment. I press approx .5" away from the actual symbol. Any suggestions?

  • Switch the machine OFF
  • While simultaneously holding down all three of the "Start/Stop",the "Reverse" and the "Needle Position (up/down)" buttons, switch the machine ON
  • Using the shank end of a sewing machine needle (NOT the sharp end), press on the + sign on the number 1, number 2 and continue though number 5 in sequence.
  • Switch the machine back on

Just purchased the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960, but can't get the needle threader to work. I can pull it down, but it won't turn to thread the needle.

When you pull the needle threader down it seems like it is pulled all the way down but it isn't. Pull it a little harder and it will turn and go down all the way to match up with the needle eye. I was a little scared to apply the extra "force", thinking I could break my new machine. Just be easy with it and it will work just like the manual says.
Good luck....

Needle not going up and down on necchi 544

There should be a button in the balance wheel on the left side of the machine. Not sure on your model, but most of the Necchi's pull out and push in. That disenguages the needle arm to wind a bobbin. Some of them screw in or out, but generally pull out. You might try pulling it out and then pushing it back in, until it clicks. Then it should work fine.
