Question about Stainless Ovens

Wall unit oven keeps beeping

I have a wall unit Tappan oven that keeps beeping uncontrollably. I am thinking the clear button must be stuck or something. When we use the oven, sometimes it will beep and turn the oven off by itself. I do not mind to keep an eye on it and turn it back on when it kicks itself off, but the beeping is driving me nuts. I assume the oven was purchased in the late 80's or early 90's. Any suggestions other than buy a new oven.

There may be also a code that flashes on the oven switch display. My Frigidaire stove started beeping and flashing F-1 at me repeatedly. This indicates a problem with the circuit board. Well, the convection switch was an external momentary contact switch, and it was sticking in the on position, which was apparently the source of the problem. This type of problem can also be caused by a voltage surge, in which case you will probably have to replace the oven switch.

It could be the clear button, or any other button that is getting stuck. These older computers used microswitches, and they are certainly subject to getting stuck.

They are expecially prone to voltage surges, however, and since my power company is one of the worst I have seen in my life, I was afraid that this was the source of my problem. If you were hit by a surge you might have to replace the switch, and on an oven this old, you might have a problem obtaining one.

Your local Sears store might have a clearance oven that they would be willing to sell you cheaply--the same goes for any other store that sells appliances. You should consider that this oven could cost you hundreds of dollars to fix if you can even fix it, so it might be worth your while to replace it. A new oven would have more features, and would have a nice clean interior, and look a lot more modern as well.

Desperately searching for User Manual for Tappan Wall Oven Model 12-4990-00-04.

Hello Owner, thank you for your inquiry!
I understand that you need the use and care manual for your Tappan wall oven, 12-4990-00-04. If the model is older than ten years old manufacturers will not keep that information available. You might be able to perform a search for antique models online for any additional information. -Matt

I keep getting FO code and beeping won't clear

Hello George,

The F0 error code means that the computer thinks a button on the touchpad is stuck. Sometimes this can be resolved by making sure the touchpad connector fits tight into the control board. The F0 code can be cleared by pushing CANCEL/OFF. If it returns the touchpad needs to be replaced .

Wall Oven won't work

I tried randomly pushing 2 buttons at a time, and when I pushed "Timer Off/On" and "Cancel" together it unlocked and is now working fine. The following day it beeped a lot for an hour or so (must have been catching up on previous pushes) but now is back to normal.
