Question about Sony VAIO F340 Notebook
I have Sony VAIO This system will not boot and brings up the error NTLDR missing. I know that is a file needed to get XP to run. I am pretty sure that the recovery console (chkdsk /r) will bring it back
but don't have an XP pro CD to use. System came with its own custom factory restore disk, which as far as i know doesn't have the recovery console I have had this issue on another system before. Is the recovery console in XP home the same as XP pro? Would it bring it back? I have also heard that putting that drive in another XP system, will cause XP to fix its own errors on the other drive. Is that true?
Please do one thing call sony for this they will be able to provide with a windows cd or if a ghost partition is available they would guide u with that but remember by doing that it would erase everything from the hard disk like your personal data

When you start your computer, you receive the error message "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart."Cause
The error message "NTLDR is missing" means that the Windows boot loader (NT Loader, NTLDR) cannot be found. This oftenoccurs when the computer tries to boot from a drive other than the one Windows is installed on, due to a change in the driveconfiguration or because you left a bootable disk in a removable drive. But it may also be because the NTLDR file has beencorrupted or deleted.SolutionCheck the boot drives
First, check the boot drives to make sure that the computer is not trying to boot from a different drive to the one thatcontains Windows.
If this does not resolve the problem, you will have to repair the NT boot loader.Fix NTLDR
The easiest way to fix the "NTLDR is missing" error is to use Spotmau PowerSuite. However, if your computer is using Windows XP and you have a Windows XP installation CD you may be able to boot from this anduse the Recovery Console to fix NTLDR manually instead.Use Spotmau PowerSuiteInsert the Spotmau PowerSuite CD and start the computer. The main menu will appear.
The tool will repair the file and report "NTLDR and NTDETECT have been recovered successfully."
