Re: performa washer smoking and smell of burnt plastic
It could be the pump or the motor overheating.
Remove rear panel, and run washer through a rinse and spin cycle.
After it has finished, unplug the washer, and feel the pump and the motor, they should be relatively cool to the touch.
If either the motor or pump feel hot, then that is probably the cause of the problem.
Also check for a worn or slipping drive belt.

Looks like something is short circuited & due to which there is burning smell coming out of the machine. Disconnect the machine immediately & inspect the insides of the machine. Locate the burnt motor or burnt wires. You heard the noise coming out of the motor. It could be dislocated brushes due to which the motor could not rotate & in turn it burnt your motor.
hello you need to change drum rollers but if u remarked water dawn the washer and burn smell it could be the motor OR THE BELT because when the drum stop turning or turn slowly the motor turn fast on the belt when spin time it make this smell .
you will have to open up the panel to check where the smell comes from. It could be on the motor which may cause also a loud noise or from the electrical, loose connection or bad relay may cause a noise of a different kind.
You are right on about the belt. If the tub every gets jammed by a full load and has trouble turning, the drive belt can get heated up ( kind of like spinning tires on the road...you get a smell and everything still works). I would suggest pulling the front cover to expose the belts...look underneath. There are usually two one for the drive and one for the pump. I'd replace them both... with extreme heat, it can change the belt enough that it won't operate correctly with bigger loads. K
go buy a small bag called "shock" for a pool.. it is only $3 at home depot.. just add 1/4 cup on an empty cycle with hot water.. it will scrub your plastic and stainless clean.. i have my wife add a teaspoon to all my clothes.. our towels would smell moldy a couple hrs after getting out of shower. now they have no smell anymore.. no smells comming out of washer either..
the belt is broken. the machine wont spin or agitate with a broken belt. set the timer to spin and the water should still drain. but not spin. belts are very cheap but replacing on could be tricky if you dont know what your doing
