Turn off the laptop completely. Unhook the battery and ac adaptor. Go ahead and reseat the memory just to make sure its seated properly. Then go ahead and only hook up the ac adaptor and turn it on to see what happens. If that doesn't work then turn everything of and put the memory in the other slot and then turn the laptop on to see if you get video then, if not then your motherboard is bad.

Power jack replacement Dell Inspiron 6400

When you press the power button, no lights, fans, beeps, anything?

Is the power jack moving around? If not, I would check the charger and cord to make sure power is getting through to the plug that goes into the jack.

Can I use the DELL Inspiron 6400 without the battery and its charger? If so, how do I safely remove the battery ?

Without BOTH the battery AND the charger, the only use for your computer is as a door-stop. :-)

Yes, the battery can easily be removed.
Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Flip the computer upside down.
Look for a "lock/unlock" button or slider.
Move the button or slider to the "unlock" position.
Carefully and slowly turn the computer right-side up,
and the battery should easily fall out of its socket, hitting your foot.

Reconnect the AC power, and start-up the computer.
