Question about Whirlpool MH7130XE Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Cooktop/Countertop lights will not turn off

When turning on the Light using the control panel button, heard a pop and now lights will not turn off on my model #MH7130XE. I think it shorted the high/low liight switch on the control board. I was told by Whirlpool that the switch part number is #4158940. My question is: Can the shorted componet be replaced on the control board easily and is there a source of instructions for doing so? I have a source for the part if that is the correct one and any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thanks. I suspected that was the wrong part . After posting my message I went to a website www.repairclinic. com and found a parts list for Microwave and that part indicated a door switch. I will go to your website and check out the process for repair.

Well it can be replaced on the control board circuit assembly if you know how to solder and desolder components. Locating it is not difficult since you would have the new one to reference to. But yes it is replaceable. Do you know how to solder and disassemble the control panel from the microwave?

Whirlpool told you wrong. Part number is #4158940 is a door switch, but that's not the problem.

They'll sell you parts or refer you to a local servicer, but they won't help you repair your unit.

On this particular model, the solid state relay PH1 near the bottom right corner of the board will be the culprit.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Again, just to be clear, the door switch is not the problem in this case.

I personally do not care for RepairClinic. I find their prices are too high and their practices less than I desire.

    You can find
helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts (at very good prices!) by entering your full
model number from the tag on the oven at the Pros
    here.

For those of you who do need a door switch, we offer a universal type for only $5 postpaid which you can
    order
    here.

If you mean the inside cavity light, I've never heard of one that allowed you to turn it off while cooking.
If you're talking about the cooktop lights, they should be selectable.
Your owner's manual will cover that.

Countertop light doesn't work

If you've checked the cooktop bulbs (with the power unplugged) and they're still not working, then the problem is almost certainly on the control circuit board.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

It is the control panel. You can actually just replace the circuit board on the control panel and it should fix this.
