Question about Philips Projection Televisions

Phillips 55'' rear projection tv model #55pp970104

Apparently there are two separate connections. One of them went out causing the picture to become all pink. The repairman hooked it to another connection and then on the ''focus'' menu we put it on #4 HDTV and the picture was normal. We left it on that setting and the set was working fine. I recently gave the set to my son and now the picture is pink again. I can get the ''focus'' menu to go on #4 HDTV but then the cable picture goes out. He has a cable box. So the set works fine as long as I leave the setting on antenna A and the cable channels come in but are pink and unless it stays on that antenna, the tv picture doesn't come in on #4 HDTV. It did before.

Phillips 55" rear projection tv model #55pp970104. When you select the picture source button a screen comes up with various selections. The set has an AUX 4 HD Y PbPa connection. It was originally set on Antenna A but that commection burned out causing the entire picture to be pink. The channels all came in but all pink in color and you could not use your cd player either as it was pink. A Phillips technician told us when he came out to fix the set he would set it on the AUX 4 HD on the menue because that set had two separate connections and when the Aux 4 HD was connected it corrected the picture back to natural. I gave the set to my son and didn't pay attention to where the cables were hooked up so now just hooking them up by color naturally and putting it on Aux 4 HD still left the picture pink. I must be missing the correction cable connection on the back of the set.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding all that you need is which jacks of the cable box has to be connected to which jacks of the Philips TV. Limiting conditions are:

  • can not use the standard Antenna A connections since the Philips would display a pink video;
  • you do not recall how and where they were connected to effect HDTV 4 setting in the Source Selection.
Your additional information of 'AUX 4 HD Y PbPa connection' is significant. It tells us that HDTV 4 is used for component type of inputs; therefore the cable box has to have similarly component level, meaning at the rear of the cable box, there should be a similar Y, Pb, Pr.

If none exists (Y, Pb, Pr at the rear of the cable box), determine if it has a composite (yellow jack) and if a similar one exists in the Philips TV.

Alternately if at all possible, post back with photos of the rear/connectors/ jacks of both the Philips and the cable box or list them in the comment box.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc...
thank u!!!

That is a convergence problem, it may be because of a faulty defective IC.

That looks like a convergence problem because of a defective convergence IC (STK) on convergence board.

The technician must test the pico fuse at the base of the convergence ICs , then replace the ICs.

Here is the complete procedure: Fixing Convergence problems in RPTV's

If this is a CRT model , check that one of the three crts is not going off because of a bad ballast board.

Check all the cables at teh back, if this is not a fault it is a cable problem.

Possibly, your small signal board needs replaced! It is usually located on the left side on the backside of the tv. It is inserted into the convergence board. This is a good place to start. Hope this gives you an idea to speak with a TV tech!
