Question about PW Calpump Pw5500 Waterfall Pump 5750 Gph 3/4 Hp

Pw5500 Calpump not working

We have a pw5500 Calpump waterfall pump that is only 18 months old. It works for a couple of minutes then trips the ground fault plug. I called Calpump and they told me it had water in the motor. When I stated that it was supposed to be a submersible pump I was informed that it could be a number of reasons and I should just buy a new pump. We really don't feel like buying a $179 pump every year and a half. We had a Little Giant pump that lasted 9 years but wasn't big enough for the pond expansion. Can anyone help?

I have the PW2500...same problem after 15 months. I would love a pump that lasts for more thean 2 years. I don't think I'd increase the amps in the breaker.... they are there for a reason...

You cant increase the breaker size with out changing the wire size, not only that, the breakers are not tripping, the ground fault is. Have a 100 amp breaker..the ground fault will still trip. This was a stupid suggestion.

To give you some advice about how to fix your waterfall probably you should specify your equipmente.
Now, without knowing a word about your system I guess the problme is the motor of your pump. If you have no experience repainng the electric board of a pump you should call an authorized repairmen

Try to relocate the position of the pump where it would be protected from water splashes. The pump motor casing might not be designed for outdoor use or not desirable for water splashes. You may also replace your pump with units designed for this purpose (pump with motor casing rating of IP 65 or IP 55).
