I have a poulan PP4218 and after replacing the priming bulb my chainsaw will not run. When trying to start itwith the full choke out, it remains running hen it should just go off. Then push in one knotch...

first off are your lines hooked up correctly at primer bulb? secondly if your diaphram is making snapping noise when you push on it then replace it!! it should be very flexible and not snap when pushed on. next remenber that THE LINE COMING FROM TANK WITH FILTER HOOKS TO CARB THEN FROM CARB TO PRIMER SUCTION NIPPLE THEN. FROM PRIMER PRESSURE SIDE BACK TO when you push it you can watch fuel squirt into tank everytime you push it and then you know it is sucking it through the carb and back to tank. hope I have explained this good enough to you good luck

Poulan 2050 fuel line routing & replacement

If you were like me, you can't find anything specific on the Poulan 2050 fuel line routing. However, I have just completed this task successfully and this applies to an engine that has a Walbro carburetor, with an inlet at the top right and bottom left. The smaller diameter tubing which runs from the tank and is connected to the fuel filter in the tank goes to the nipple which is on the top of the carburetor, period. There are two lines running to the primer bulb and one goes to the bottom left side of the carburetor and one goes to the line running into the tank. If you have an original primer, the lines on the primer itself may not be marked, so you may have to switch them around to get them right. When they are right, fuel should travel from the tank, up the small diameter fuel line, through the carburetor and the excess goes back into the tank through the primer. Simply switching these lines around on the primer will solve the problem. An easy test is to remove the supply line (the one that comes from the filter) from the carb nipple and pump the primer. If gas comes out, then you have it right. To replace the actual fuel line and filter is easy enough as well if you cut the end of the small line on a diagonal of about 2" or more so that it easily slips through the hole in the upper part of the tank. Then simply grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it down slowly until you can feed it using your left hand to pull, right hand to thread. I am not a mechanic but this is exactly how I did it. Hopefully this simple description is helpful and yes, the nipples on the carburetor are repectfully input and output but determining which is which is not often easy, so that is why I specifically talk to a Poulin 2050 model. Now replacing the trigger assembly is another matter which I need to learn about.

Have replaced fuel lines but still will not keep running how do the fuel lines hook up and any other advice

There are three hoses on the machine, the hose from the tank with the filter on the end, connects to the fuel inlet on the carb, this is the inlet closest to the pump side of the carb held with a single screw, there is then a hose nearest to the metering dide of the carb, this goes to the short conection on the back of the primer, the suction side, the long connection on the back of the primer, the pressure side returns to the fuel tank, just remember the primer pulls fuel from the carb, and back into the tank, not the other way round, if you have connected them the wrong way, this will explain why it runs badly.

Diagram of fuel lines from tank to primer to carb and back to tank for a poulan 2050 chainsaw.

clip_image002.gifFuel components are onthe "Engine Assembly" & "Handle, Chassis, & BarAssembly" detail pages.
Replacement fuel lines can be found at yourlocal chainsaw seller/mechanic. They are different diameters.

Fuel Line Replacement
  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, the output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill the bulb as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

I need a routing of the fuel lines from filter to, primer-in, primer-out, to carburator, out of carburator, back to tank. this is on a poulan chainsaw, 2550. Mod 952-05138. please respond.MARRY CHRISTMAS.

There are two holes in the fuel tank, it does not matter which line goes to which hole. The lines should run as follows: One line from the tank should have a filter on it, connect this line to the primer bulb and put a mark on it with a sharpie. Another line should run from the bulb to the carb, and the last should run from the carb back into the tank. After they are all in place, pump the bulb and watch the gas in the marked line. If gas is flowing from the tank through the marked line into the bulb and on to the carb you are done. If gas is flowing towards the tank in the marked line or not at all reverse the two lines on the bulb and you're done.

Where can i find the diagram for the fuel sysetem for a poulan

If the old lines are still attached, just replace one at a time. If everything is lying in a heap, then you will need to do a little sleuthing. Assuming the worst, begin with the line in the tank back end that holds the fuel filter (if it is old too--replace it). Be sure to use original rubber lines, not plastic. To connect the tank side of the line, you will need long hemostats or pliers to reach the tank fitting and the line must be long enough to allow the filter to be replaced from the opening. On the top side of the fitting, the line goes to the upper connection on the carburetor, but first run it to the primer bulb (which should be in good condition as well). Hook it either port, and attempt pumping fuel from the tank. If the correct port, it will draw fuel from the filter into the primer and expel it out the other port after about 3-6 pumps. If nothing, move the line to the other port and try pumping again. Once you get fuel to pump, then run a line from the open port into the tank for the return line. Remove the fuel line from the other port and attach it to the upper carburetor port. Run another line from the lower carburetor port over to the open primer port. Attempt pumping fuel again, this time pulling it through the carburetor into the primer bulb and expelling it back into the tank. All connections are just push-on and no cement required. Don't use more length than required for any section. Hope this helps!

McCulloch Chainsaw carb not getting fuel

This is the same problem I have with a Mac 3200. I have: (1) A line from the primer bulb to the front port on the carburator. (2) line from fuel tank, with attached fuel filter, to the other primer bulb port. (3) Line from port on back of carb. to ????. I thought it must be a pulse line, but not certain, and don't know where to run it to. Please let me know when you find out.
