MY VIDOE CAMCORDER WILL NOT RECORD SOUND WHEN I ATTACH A MIC

You need to connect your mic to an amplifier first and then to camera. Orherwise mic has not enouth power output. Zoom h4n might work but its expansive. Or u can buy wm-v1, wireless mic, it'll work just fine. Or buy mic with power already built in, like Rode VideoMic.

Static noise when playing back recording, sounds like the wind

This camera has a single Mic - make sure your finger isn't over it though -- try making a recording in a closed room - no wind noise - is there still static ??
Go through settings and see what choices there are -- like outdoor , indoor . close to subject etc.
My CAM had a close up and background button - which was a sensitivity setting - and the background setting picked up EVERY sound from miles around and filled the tape with noise. The close up setting only picked up sound from bout 2 - 3 meters.
Do you also have an external plug for a Mic ? this would also check whether it's the camera mic or recording that is at fault ??

I plugged the wrong power cord into my SVP T-800 camcorder.

Wow mate, not a good move that one, you may have fryed the main PCB by the sound of it, unless a fuse was in line some where within the camera, though I feel this would not be the case. You may have no choice other than send it to makers for repair on this one, because as well as putting too much power in, it may have been the wrong polarity too.

Not getting sound for editing

If your camera was picking up sound from the mic, then it may be the PC sound settings stopping you from hearing sound, if you can hear the movie before you connect to PC then the PC is the problem.

Hello, You hav kind of confused the issue here, one of these mic's is not working and some are. So do we assume that with some microphones the problem is not there?

If that is so I would think there is an impedance mismatch between one of the mic's to the impedance input to the camera, or the plug from the camera is faulty

If you put the camcorder in manual mode, there is a microphone sensor that will move when sound is picked up by the external microphone. In manual you can keep everything else automatic. The off for the mic means that the built in mic is turned off when an external mic is attached.
