Re: The color in my TV seems to be going out.
Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.
Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )
Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are The color in my TV seems to be going out. - 2c07611.pnguld be replaced. This is a common problem.
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. YoThe color in my TV seems to be going out. - 578ba6c.jpgsee halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

If you turn color off and stand back and examine the screen---if it is not black and white but yellow looking you have bad Glycol in the blue picture tube which is quite common.
Easy way to know for sure is with set on and rear cover removed peek with a small mirror at the three lens---don't touch anything with the set on===each tube red, blue, green should have a picture with the set on.
Likely you will find the blue one looks like a floodlight with little or NO image/picture.
I want you to do a simple visual check of something that will tell me what the problem may be.
Go to a channel that is in black and white--old movie and tell me what color the screen/picture is.
You can also turn the COLOR in the customer menu all the way off and look that way.
What we are trying to see here is if TRACKING is set correctly or has changed. If the screen is somewhat to medium reddish it may be an adjustment outside of the customer menu.
Let me know what you find--I have seen several of these where the black and white picture was somewhat red--the idea is it should be as close to black and white as possible--if red is the predominant background color the picture will look reddish.
If this has helped and you confirm the red instead of black and white picture--I can tell you a easy way to adjust this.
If this information told you something you did not know and helps you rate this solution as I do this here for free.
You have a focus/screen control box Find it and adjust the R/G/B screen drives When you first start Go to Menu turn Color off then with a mirror adjust the picture as close as you can to a black and white picture R/G/B screen drives, the little control box you are looking for will have 3 controls on top for focus and 3 controls under them for screen drives to each tube red, green, blue after you have adjusted to a black and white picture then go back and turn color on.
How do you have the cables connected to the TV? If you are using the RGB cables (Red Blue Green cables) they can be bad and just give you certain colors and make it seem like black and white. The easiest way to fix it is to get new cables from Wal-mart, Best Buy, Circuit City or any other electronic store. If you are using the Aux cables (Yellow, White, and Red) the Yellow cable may be cut or crimped so you have limited color. If you are using coaxial cable or the cable that connects to the cable box the same problem may be there. The cable may be bad and may be in need of replacement. If it isnt the cables then the color scheme on the LCD TV may be out of wack. You can fix that by going to the picture settings and changing it from there.
Heres the best way to set a phillips screen controls. Go into the picture controls and set picture or contrast to roughly 75%, then set brightness to 50% and then set the color level completely off. Then adjust the screen with the 3 color controls untill you recieve the best black and white picture as possible. If you are unable to achieve a good black and white picture change the coolant in the green and blue tubes. But if you can get a good black and white picture stop there then turn your color level back up and the picture should be correct. Let me know if you need further assistance.
go into menu turn color off see if you have a black and white picture if not adjust red, green, and blue screen drive on controls in back of tv you have red, green, blue it will have focus /screen controls cover each tube do one at a time blue focus and screen drive adjust to clear blue picture do all 3 tubes, then adjust them to where you have a black&white picture once this is done turn color controll back on.Thank You for using FixYa and Have a Nice Day.
use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
