SOURCE: Zooming with Olympus Stylus 820

Hey missy0528,
There are a few reasons your images might be grainy, one of which is your image quality is set to low. I would always have the camera set to the highest resolution possible, because you can always reduce the size of an image but you can never make it bigger. Another cause of grainy images in digital cameras is the sensitivity of the camera (ISO) is set to high. Since you are only seeing grainy images when you use the zoom the reason for the grainy images is most likely do to using the digital zoom. All a digital zoom does is crop the image much as you can do in some computer applications, and by doing this you greatly reduce your image quality. I would never use a digital zoom. Your camera has a 5x optical zoom and a 5.6x digital zoom. I would only use the optical zoom. I hope this helps!

SOURCE: how do i put actual

By default Olympus cameras do not print the date on the images when they are downloaded to a PC. Olympus does not include this functionality because they feel that it detracts from image quality. There is a function of the camera called print order that you can set that it will print the date on the images but this is only if you take the card to a photo processing store. However if you use the Olympus Master software and print the images that you have previously transferred there is a check box in the print setting window that you can add the date and or time to the printed image.

I CANNOT OPEN THE LENS OF MY CAMERA. OLYMPUS TOUGH 6010. There''s a beeping sound everytime I open it. I can only view the pictures but I cannot use the shooting modes.

Apparently some problem in the inside of the camera with the lens assembly or something is disconnected. You can get in touch with the repairs of the Olympus company and see what repairs would cost. I am almost sure that the repair is going to be more than the camera is worth to you.
Many times dirt or dust can cause problems with the lens. Also this can be caused by internal problems which means repairs. In my experience with these small cameras, the lens repairs have been some of the hardest repairs to complete correctly. That is not saying that it cannot be done. If the lens is taken apart or removed, the camera should be re-calculated on a computer with the right software.

I just purchased a new Olympus E 420 I am trying to take pictures of a basketball game and they are blurry. Can you help me select the correct mode and shutter speed.

I assume you're shooting indoors and that you can't rig additional floodlights. Unfortunately, you're probably not going to eliminate all of the blurring. Here are some tips on reducing the blur.

Raise the ISO. This will increase the noise, and you'll have to make the call as to the trade-off between noise and blur.

Set the exposure mode to Aperture-priority. Open up the lens as far as it will go. This will guarantee the fastest shutter speed under the circumstances.

Anticipate the action and time it for the peak. A player driving the lane will blur. A player hanging at the top of his jump shot won't.

If you're sitting in the bleachers, forget about using flash: you're too far away for the flash to reach the subject. If you're on the sidelines (and flash is allowed), you can experiment with flash.

You didn't specify the lens(es) you'll be using. One of the things that separate the professionals from the rest of us is the speed of their lenses. Of course, if Sports Illustrated is paying for the pictures, the photographer can afford $2000 lenses.

Olympus E-300 Digital SLR storing black images.

Most likely the shutter "curtain" (a few pieces looking like sheet metal just behind the mirror, designed to protect the camera CCD from dust and damage due to too much light) is not opening. This will require servicing by Olympus, since you will have to take the camera apart to be able to reach this camera part. Unfortunately, this may be a pretty expensive repair.

Shutter making an extra clicking noise

You are taking long exposures over 3 seconds, the camera does make some slight noise while the timer is going through the count down, that is normal, as long as the shutter is doing what it is supposed to do and your image is coming out (and the ones over 3 seconds also) it sounds normal. Only if it is hanging up and taking longer than the time you are describing, then the shutter should be cleaned.

Olympus Stylus 820 Shutter noise when focusing or moving camera

The lens can and will make some random noises as its automatic focus and lighting adjustments are being readjusted for you. If you are scared it is something else, try going to the store and trying out the display model. See if it acts the same way.

IR-300 Olympus

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

Olympus E-1 Digital Camera.

There is, as people have been looking for, a way to count the total number of exposures on your E-1. May work on other bodies, but I don't have those to try]. A. Firmware readout on E-1 [may be the same on all E Series bodies]: 1. Turn the E-1 on 2. Open the storage media door 3. Press down the Playback Mode button and OK button at the same time You will then get the firmware info displayed on the LCD monitor. B. More "internal info" [ALL E series bodies?]: There's a neat little trick to know some statistics about your E-body: 1: open the CF card door 2: press "play" and "ok" at the same time 3: press the arrows in this order: up; down; left; right 4: fully depress shutter once 5: press up arrow, and now there is magic on the screen pressing the arrows, you can go through some pages a: firmware details of attached goodies b: R= shutter release count (with my camera it was obviously reset during service), S= flashes fired, M= pixel mapping (mapped pixels?), U= SSWF ? At your own risk of course...

Noise Reduction

This function reduces the noise that generated during long exposures. When shooting night scenes, shutter speeds become slower and noise tends to appear on images. When noise reduction is turned on the camera automatically reduces noise to produce clearer images. Since shooting time is approximately twice as long as usual, noise reduction is only activated when the shutter speed is slower than 1 second.
