These machines need to have their drum units replaced every 12000 pages. If you have replaced it then it needs to have the machine reset. Normally the instructions are included in the box with the new drum unit but not many people read these.
Open the front cover (Where you put the cartridge and drum unit in)
Press the Back Button
Display reads "Replace Drum 1. Yes 2. No"
Press the number 1
The display reads "Accepted"
Close the Front Cover
If you have not replaced the drum unit and you reset the drum counter you will see a noticeable degradation of the printouts coming from the machine.
Do NOT use flammable substances near the machine. Do NOT use any type
of spray to clean the inside or outside of the machine. Doing this may
cause a fire or electrical shock.
While removing the drum unit, handle it carefully because it may
contain toner. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, wipe or wash
it off with cold water at once.
After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of
the machine will be extremely hot. When you open the front or back cover
(back output tray) of the machine, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown
in the illustration. If you do this, you may get burned.
Open the front cover.
Slowly take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
We recommend that you put the used drum unit and toner cartridge
assembly on a clean, flat surface with a sheet of disposable paper or
cloth underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.
To prevent damage to the machine caused by static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration.
Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.
Discard the used drum unit according to local regulations, keeping it
separate from domestic waste. Be sure to seal up the used drum unit
tightly in a suitable bag so that toner powder does not spill out of the
unit. If you have questions, call your local waste disposal office.
Wait to unpack a new drum unit until immediately before you put it
in the machine. Exposure to direct sunlight or room light may damage the

Unpack the new drum unit.
Put the toner cartridge firmly into the new drum unit you hear
it lock into place. If you put the cartridge in properly, the green lock
lever will lift automatically.
Make sure that you put in the toner cartridge properly or it may separate from the drum unit.
Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding
the green tab from right to left and left to right several times.
Be sure to return the green tab to the home position (1). If you do not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.
Put the new drum unit and toner cartridge assembly in the machine.
For MFC users: To confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1.
For DCP users: To confirm you are installing a new drum, press the Up Arrow key.
When the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover.
First: Soft Reset 1. Open front cover. 2. Hold down button located under LED's until all LED's
are lit. 3. Release button and make sure drum LED is off, then 4. Close cover
Second: Factory Reset 1. Turn the printer off. 2. Hold in the circular button on the front panel of the printer. 3. Turn the printer back on. 4. When the DRUM light is lit by itself let go of the button. 5. Hold in the circular button on the front panel again. 6. Once the Alarm light comes on, let go of the button. This will perform a factory reset on the printer.

Open the front door, and press the go button until the lights flash, after closing, press the go button 3 times for a printout showing the drum as full again. The instructions come with the new drum...
Centre of machine is not one door but two, the first is the maual bypass tray but you can open the whole front. Then you are where you can put toner and drum in/out. Once front is open just pull entire black insides of printer slightly up and towards you, whole unit now removed is drum and toner, unclick ((blue tabs) toner from drum unit ..fit it to new drum, reinsert it, before you close the door, turn on the machine and Clear, 1. Now close the door.
How do I replace the drum unit?
Follow the procedure below to replace drum unit.

Just after you have used the MFC, some internal parts of the MFC are extremely HOT! So please be careful.
Press the cover release button and then open the front cover.
Remove the old drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. Place it on a drop cloth or disposable paper to avoid scattering toner.
To prevent damage to the printer from static electricity, do not touch the electrodes shown below.
Hold down the lock lever on the right and pull the toner cartridge out of the drum unit

Reinstall the toner cartridge into the new drum unit
To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded part shown in the illustration. If you accidentaly touch the shaded part, wipe the surface with a dry lint-free soft cloth.
Reinstall the new drum unit, keeping the front cover open.
Press 1 and when the LCD shows Accepted, and close the front cover
