Question about Panasonic NN-S251 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

I cannot open the door of my Panasonic NN-T543W microwave

I have had a problem with this beastie for a while now. When I pressed the door open button, the door would be released but not fully open until I gently pulled it. Now the door is closed but pressing the open button does nothing? There is no resistance left to the button and I don't want to force the door open to try the "Rubber Band" remedies suggested by others without first asking if prising the door would do more damage?
Please help???

Thank you,
Colin Robinson

Thank you so much for your advice, I really do appreciate it!

As you may have gathered, I am not exactly "technically minded" but I was able to follow the clear instructions you gave. The linkage you describe does indeed release the two door catches and springs back down to press a little red contact that allows the microwave to work normally. The problem with mine is that irrespective of how hard or gently you press the door release button, about one time in three, the linkage slips past the door catches without operating them and locks itself down. I can't release it from this position without taking the cover off again.

Is there anything you can suggest to remedy this problem or do I need to file the machine in the round filing cabinet?

Well do not pry the door open since there is an easier remedy which will lead you in the direction that you need to fix your problem. Take the cover off after you disconnect the power to it. Once you have taken the cover off (only a few screws) you will be able to see the two latches that hold the door closed and the link that opens both of them. You can just lift both latches at the same time and it will open. After you have done that take a good look and press in on the open door button and you will see where you have the problem of the door hanging. That button should push a linkage that pushes up on both latches at once to open the door. It is spring loaded so that it comes back down so that when you close the door it will hold the door closed. Anyway that is where your problem is. Let me know if you need more hlep.

You need to take the cover off the microwave so that you can pull both of the latches that hold the door closed up. When you push the button in it engages a linkage that pushes both taches up at the same time to open the door. It is springloaded and will come back down during normal operation to hold the door closed when you close it again. That area is where your problem is. By looking at what happens when you press the open door button you should be able to readily see where the problem lies in that linkage.

Clean the inside edge of the door and oven where it contacts the door. Grease or oil is preventing the door to swing open.

Oven door on PanasoniPanasonic microwave Model NN-SD277 won't open when pressing open button

I just had that problem. It is the plastic workings. One of the plastic posts that holds the pivoting lever had to be epoxied. That plastic rejects crazy glue, don't waste your time. Just epoxy and as much as you think can fit under the electronics and the metal plate you will have to pull out.

My suggestion is take pictures of every step so that you can hook all the electrics back up. There are some testy switches that must be unsnapped too.

Door button does not function for panasonic microwave=need to know how to take the face off so that I can fix it

Take side panels off and press the button through from the back, my husband has just done this tonight on our Panasonic microwave model NN-ST477 as the door would not open. He found a piece of plastic like a hook had snapped off. The door now opens and functions normally. Took about 30 minutes to do . If and when it becomes stuck again we know that we will need a new replacement button. Hope this helpskind regardsChristine

I have a similar microwave that I recently repaired. NN-9854 (bad capacitor). So your microwave functions but you cant stop it unless you unplug it, it ends its cycle, or you open the door? Does it beep when pressed? If not, you need a new control pad.
