Audio Distortion The audio from one of the channels is distorted whether using the speakers or a headset.

SOURCE: no voice audio

Have you selected coax mode with the input button?. If so you may need to play around with the setup buttons. Can't give anymore advice as I've lost my manual. Good luck

SOURCE: Center Speaker Audio Very Distorted

Love your screen name.

You didn't say what, if anything, preceded the appearance of the problem. There might be a clue.

Can you describe the distortion? Is it excessively bassy? If so, is it happening on all sources?

I'm assuming this is a modern digital receiver that is capable of many soundfield simulations as well as native Dolby Digital, DTS, multi-channel. If so we can use a stereo source and through simulation redirect some of it to the center speaker.

Using one of your receiver's many multi-channel simulation modes, put in a CD or tune an FM station and use it to diagnose the problem during later steps.

If it's only a single source and that source uses individual analog channel RCA cables, swap in another one or temporarily move the Center Channel feed to one of the other channels to see if it's before the receiver (in the source).or inside the receiver.

For multiple sources:

Is your Center speaker defined properly as Large or Small in the receiver's setup menu?The size refers mostly to the bass-handling capacities of all your speakers rather than their physical size. Speakers designated as 'Small' will not be sent much in the way of bass because they can't handle it well. The LFE/subwoofer channel(s) will get all the bass that was intended for them instead.

If you have a Small speaker improperly defined as Large it may be getting bass that it can't handle and that might sound like distortion. Having a Large speaker defiend as Small would result in less bass than expected but otherwise 'clean' sound.

Check the speaker setup in the menu for excessive volume level relative to the others. There is usually a calibration procedure the receiver will use to help you adjust the subjective voume of each speaker using white noise or tones.

It sounds like your receiver may have a damaged output IC. I'm assuming that you've already tried a known good speaker on the right channel but if not, that would be a good idea. Also check and verify that the speaker wire is not damaged and that the terminals at each end are securely fastened.

If you severely modified the load to the amp by running more speakers than it's designed to drive and/or at a lower impedence, well, are you surprised?

It only pushes around 25 watts/channel AT TEN PERCENT DISTORTION through a carefully and unrealistically limited bandwidth specification.

Running 'clean' (under, say, 1% distortion throughout th 20-20000hz range) it probably only pushes 10 watts/channel. Once an amp is taxed beyond it's clean abilities it will start to distort, badly, and distortion will kill speakers and maybe the amp itself.

A receiver with the specs...

... when fed an undistorted audio signal, used properly and not driven abto clipping is not particularly dangerous to any reputable speaker.

Driving any amplifier, even a modest one, into high distortion is more dangerous to any speaker than a high-powered amp pumping pure undistorted power.

Choose any speakers but low efficiency models if you want loud and clean sound.

How many total watts does this system have


Well... It consumes 240 watts of electrical power total so take the audio power specifications with a huge grain of salt, as no audio device puts out in audio power anywhere near what it consumes in electrical power. Heat produced is power consumed, too and nothing is 100% efficient.

In the specs below the only information useful for comparison is in the line I highlighted with >>> <<<<'s as it conforms the closest to the industry standard practice of using:

"X watts into 8 ohms (standard load) from 20 - 20000 hz plus or minus Y db at no more than .0Z% distortion"

The better amps specify vanishingly low distortion specs (0.0x% vs 0.x%) at the cost of being able to claim higher wattage. But they guarantee cleaner sound at the claimed levels.

JVC is being tricky with their choice of a 40 hz lower limit. THAT is the power hungry end of the spectrum. 20 hz is normally the lower limit stated.

"Output Power .............At Stereo operation
Front channels .............55 watts per channel, min. RMS, driven into 4 ohms at 1 kHz, with no more than 0.9 % total harmonic distortion. (IEC268-3/DIN) 30 watts per channel, min. RMS, driven into 8 ohms at 1 kHz, with no more than 0.9 % total harmonic distortion. (IEC268-3/DIN)

This sounds like the amplifer is playing up. If the distortion is on more than one channel, you are looking at a faulty part common to both channels. If on one channel only, perhaps something in the pre-amp or power amp sections. Have a look inside, you might find a burnt resistor, which would cause it.

Playback distortion


Good day sir, distortion can be caused by several factors, 1. overdriven audio source, try tuning down the volume to half. 2. the speakers are defective due to driver's coil scratching the magnet. need to replace the speakers, better swap first any good known speakers. hope this may help. if you may have any more questions, feel free to ask again. thanks

Center channel audio distortion and noise


I have similar problem with my Onkyo Tx-SR600. It only happens when it's in surround mode. When switch to Stereo or Direct, the scratchiness go away. Still trying to find a solution to this problem.

Webcam audio problem


Normal 0 Two things can cause static.
First, If you have your speakers turned up to high it will give you feedback causing distortion and static. I recommend using a headset when videoing.
Second reason is, if you are using a laptop and have added an external microphone and have a built-in mike, between the two it will cause distortion and static.
Not knowing the configuration of your computer makes it harder to analyze the problem.

Surround sound distortion


Receivers like this will incorrectly decode rear channel audio and pass it on to the rear channels as distorted audio. Make sure the source being used really has rear channel information encoded into it. It could have other issues but check this first.
