I have an acer aspire 5630 it has worked well for nearly 4 years, about 4 months back I noticed that the screen would be dark and slightly reddish for the first 30 seconds to a minute after turning it on...

hi

try rebooting the system (i think its F8, to get to SAFEMODE) . in DESKTOP , right click and go to PROPERTIES, go to SETTINGS, go SCREEN RESOLUTION and take the arrow to the left ; set to 640x800 and and take the color setting to 256 drop down . hopefully this works after rebooting the system. if it doesnt, it may sound like the inverter card may be bad (PC bourd that connectes to the screen : this requires a service technician)

good luck !

The screen on my Toshiba Tecra laptop has been flickering the past couple of weeks. Today, after using for about 5 minutes, the screen went completely black. I had to reboot to get the screen lit again. ...

Sounds like an inverter problem. If your laptop is still under warranty, send it in for repair. If not, and you know a little something about taking laptops apart, then you can take the screen a part and see the inverter behind the screen. It is long and skinny and has wires coming out of both ends, one side going to bulb, the other to the motherboard. Inverters are fairly cheap, and easy to replace... it's getting to it that is a pain.

My Toshiba A665-S6086's screen was blue and a redish pinkish earlier today and I have rebooted it a bunch of times. I can't figure out what the problem is. Is it something with the backlight?

Hi. Thanks for your question.
It is more likely that Inverter went is in your screen. They are relatively cheap and not that complicated to replace. To determine that it is your screen that is at fault you need to connect your toshiba to external screen. If the same things happen it is your Graphics card that's at fault. If it don't it is your inverter or connection/cable. When backlight goes bad entire screen becomes dark/darker then normal. Please see this video to have a look at inverter and where it is in your screen to get an idea.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S87niyGJfPs
Do not hesitate to ask more questions if this is needed. Thank You for using FixYa

Inspiron e1505 screen in darker on the right side

Hi

Thank you fr your query

From what you are describing it sounds like the LCD screen is starting to burn out

Please try the following

1) Switch on laptop
2) Continuously press the F8 key until a start up menu is presented
3) Chsoos safe mode from the options
4) Once safe mode has laoded up check the screen to see if it is still dark

I believe it will be.

If it is you will need to book the laptop into a reputable PC shop to replace LCD screen

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Dark area on left side of screen of Dell Inspiron 1525

ok , i have had this problem on bolth my dell inspiron laptops , on a 6400 and a 1525 . the 6400 had the lower left corner all dark and the 1525 was split right down the center . i fix bolth of em in a really simple way , turn on ur pc and go into windows , press the blue Fn button and the down arrow untill ur brightness from ur backlight is completely down . keep it that way with the screen on with a screen saver for about one hour then turn brightness back up but not all the way up cuz in my case the problem hapened again , but when i keep it just one click darker , boom problem fixed . from what i can figuere out is that the inverter aint powerfull enought to power the backlight and tends to over heat , so keeping the backlight a bit lower tend the keep em ok

Screen is half dark and whistles when battery is unplugged

You could have a defective screen, either a faulty inverteror a CCFL lamp - follow this to determine the fault.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Screen went dark (almost completely)

check your power cord and make sure it's plugged in all the way, and if it is, check your brightness setting.

Usually it's the Fn key + an arrow key. Make sure the brightness is up all the way

A dark large stripe on the screen which won't go away

It is definitely a screen related issue. There are 5 drivers each running a section of the screen. Obviously one is out, but that doesn't mean the others are on the way. You may be able to find a replacement screen if you'd like to attempt the replacement yourself. Otherwise you always have the option of using a service center.
