where you able to install the chipset drivers for your desktop, please double check if your drivers are all installed, you can try to go to support.dell.com enter the service tag of your computer under the drivers and download category and you will be able to see all the drivers there, mot probably its just a driver issue.
you will need to go into system maintenance/loacte sound and insure that the motherboard has sent the request to reflect your sound card is there. if no sound card is listed you will need to do a add/remove hardware search. see computer/right click on properties and then device manager, then go to sound and see if all device drivers are there.
