Question about P.I. Engineering X-keys (XF-10-US-R)

Open Question

Unable to find PIBus.sys

Our customer has run to X-key devices for a couple of years now on two Windows 2000 clients without any problems.

Today the got these messages on both clients.

"Unable to find PIBus.sys"

and

"No X-keys found. Please plug in your X-keys device or check Device Configuration from Options Menu."

Windows Update is disabled, and the IT-department claim they have not touched the clients.

What could be done to fix the problem?

/Harald

The I8042prt.sys is a system function driver found in Microsoft Windows 2000 and later versions for PS/2-style keyboard and mouse devices. If I8042PRT.sys is disabled or missing from the Registry this could be the cause. First check in Device Manager, a black exclamation point (!) on a yellow field appears next to these devices?

See if you can update the driver.

Lets check your registry. Here is the key: HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ i8042prt:Imagepath=System32\Drivers\i8042prt.sys
It should be there can you check to see if it's still there? Here's how:

Click Start > Run > Type: regedit

When Registry editor opens expand local machine> system >CurrentControlSet> Services> (Scroll down till you see i8042prt and click on it.

And tell me what the data entries for Start (should be 1)

Then expand the i8042prt key and select "Parameter" tell me in detail listed for the layer drivers; exactly what you see then select "Enum" Tell me if you see a file name "1" and data: ACPI\PNP0F13\4&1506bb2e&0

We might have to enable or add the port.

I'd suggest running a repair if you have your windows installation disk or do System Restore in Safe Mode, if unable to do it in Normal Mode.

Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.

Try a System Restore once there, pick a Restore Point before your problem started (if there's a restore point that goes further back prior to your malware issue I'd suggest that restore point)

Here's how to access system restore:
Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc

If that doesn't fix it you might have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
http://majorgeeks.com/Kaspersky_TDSSKiller_d6895.html

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

If none of the above works you should seriously think about switching to a USB mouse and USB keyboard. The i8042prt.sys driver is ancient and it only controls PS/2 mice and keyboards (Doesn't affect anything else).

Deploying endpoint software to Windows 2000 clients returns the error 0000002b to the console Symptom
You are unable to deploy client-applications to Windows 2000 client-computers. The following error message is displayed in console:

  • Enabling NTLMv2 in the registry:
    open the following registry key,

I cant find the driver for my samsung intercept. I would like to connect to my computer but the S3C6410 ANDROID ADB doesn't work

Here is what I have found. You cannot let windows automatically install. You must answer no to automatically install and do it manually. So try downloading this link and unzipping it where you can find it. And then point the install window to this .inf file.
a somewhat official answer is all your problem is lack of androidusb.sys, which located in windows\system32\drivers\, it was deleted or replaced by installing some other android related usb client drivers, however, when you install it manually by pointing it to the android_winusb.inf, it do copy the .sys file into system32\drivers\ again, so when come across with this problem, remove target client device keys (with the VID/PID) in registry in currencontrolset/usb/enum, then better restart windows , and run .exe file to install driver or install it manually, and if you can get the right androidusb.sys from your driver directry (for example c:\progrm files\htc...), you can just copy it into system32\drivers\ but complicated.
I cannot vouch for this file but it looks legit. CaptivateADBDriver xp.zip

Where can i find Windows 2000. It drives me to crazy, i have wi-fi card which is compatble with windows 2000 and i need to set that card today :( Anyone can help? My laptop model is Acer Travel Mate...

If the card is compatible with Windows 2000, it probably is compatible with Windows XP.

If not, access the manufacturer's web-site, and download the device-driver for Windows XP for the device.

Siren Edge 4 gig Boot error,

Siren's software support is bad, but you can call them: 254.224.0222

Sometimes reformatting a player can cause key system files to be lost - this particular mp3 player does not have a recovery tool or a firmware upgrade that I know of, so you can try the Windows Recovery Method: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
Let me know how it turns out.

Your op sys info would help greatly. If you have windows 2000 or above it should see it. If you are using anything earlier reinstall the drivers. If you dont have the disk go to the flashdrive manufacturers website and download it. You mite also try to uninstall any sign of it in device manager and reboot....

Stop Messages During Installation An unsuccessful attempt to install Windows 2000 can result in a Stop message. When this happens, first check that the computer and all of its peripheral hardware are compatible with Windows 2000. To do this, refer to the latest Windows 2000 Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). Microsoft compiles the HCL through rigorous component and compatibility testing of computers and peripheral hardware to determine if they work well with Windows 2000. For more information about the HCL, see "Additional Resources" at the end of this chapter.
If the hardware you use is not included on the Windows 2000 HCL, contact the hardware manufacturer as a first-line resource for available information, newly tested hardware, and Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) and firmware revisions. Reducing the number of hardware components by removing nonessential peripherals and devices can help you pinpoint installation conflicts as well.
