Question about Whirlpool MH7140XF Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Buttons including light, cook time, etc will work infrequently

Basically sometimes you can turn the light on and off just fine, other times the button will not respond leaving the light, fan etc on or off until you just unplug the thing...obviously the panel behind the buttons isn't working well/inconsistently. We had a repair guy out some time ago for something else and he said the repair part was so expensive I might as well buy another one...but I found a similar model that is working...could I use parts from it? Does anyone know if the guts/electronics are compatible? Mine is a mh6150xmt and the one I'm looking at is a MH6140XK. Does anyone know what the letters and numbers stand for?

Thanks for trying but you cost me $50.00. I bought the MH6140XK and the buttons are different so I can't use the part.

Good news, even though the electronic controls (circuit boards) are different, the touch pads for the two units are the same. As far as the nomenclature behind the model numbers/letters, this information is rarely known or needed.

Please take the time to give this solution a fix ya rating.

Whirlpool microwave AVM 585 - none of the control buttons are working, except the number 1.

The electronics on your control panel have gone bye bye. That is why to this date I have always preferred the nukes with the old fashioned timer. They always work and when anything goes it is the little motor that can be easily replaced at nominal cost..

Newer is not always better. Might look better but .....................

I have maytag advance cooking system(electric) and the oven will not work. The timer to set the oven and the time is not lighting up but the stove is working.any sugestion

try resetting the clock. If it is digital, push the clock button and then the number buttons untill you have the proper time displayed...then push the clock button again. If your clock and timer are manual, try pushing in the clock lever and turning it 1/4 turn. If this works it would indicate that your timer has a start and finish time and that the oven is not working because the clock has rotated around to the finish time.

Defrosting buttons and how to use

a defrost on the mic.
this button is a selector of power really, it cyles the heat on and off keeping the actual cooking energy to minimun, just enough to knock down ice crytals
but make no mistake it is working the same just a lower power setting,
you could do the same thing by selecting power level 2-3 for longer times

Wont work

Don't know this particular model, but it sounds like you are just pressing the time buttons for cooking and not actually setting the time clock which is what it's asking for. Are you following the instructions for setting time as detailed in your instruction book?

I have Emerson Microwave #mw8999sv which has the Express Cook option- cooking 1 - 6 minutes. How do I cook for 1 minute 30 seconds, etc.? Thank you.

The owner's manual is here. On page 10 we find:

COOKING IN ONE STAGE
1. Press the POWER button; the Microwave and High
Cook indicators will light and “PL 10” will light in the
display.
2. Press the POWER button different times to set the
desired power; the display will show the percentage
you chose. If selecting power level 70%-10%, the
Low Cook indicator will light instead of the High
Cook indicator.
3. Press number keys to set the desired cooking time.
OPERATION(CONTINUED)
4. Press the START/+30SEC. button to start cooking;
the Microwave and one of the Cook indicators will
blink and the display will countdown the remaining
cooking time in minutes and seconds. It will beep
five times when cooking is completed.

Our microwave stopped working suddenly. It's a GE JVM1330 and was made in 1996. The buttons on the control panel work fine, and the light inside turns on. We can enter a cook time, and it counts down as if...

It's one of the micro-switches (3) that are part of the interlocking safety circuit. I actually took my switch apart and fixed it, but 99% of those out there would (and should) replace the switch.
