Its not a virus as when you format your hard drive it would wipe it out ... how many hard drive do you have ? if you have 2 install a new instalation to the good hard drive and you should get to the part of xp that says do you want to format the partition on this hard drive by pressing ( f ) do this and when your pc has finished re-installing you can click on my computer in your start menu then right click on the bad hard drive and run a full format from there ...

hope this helps ... jedi-inc ....

install xp on your d drive your pc will work ...

go to computer ...where you can see your hard drives and cd/dvd drives ..

right click on c drive and then left click on format

    then click start ...

wait for format to finish ..

you should now have nothing in c drive ...a blank drive ...

you may have some old files left in there but they will only be old

    operating xp files ...

thats all i know ..hope i have helped you ...

When I try to revert back to Windows XP From Windows 7 it asks me for a password that i don't know.

I think your problem is this, you try to install Windows XP with a pre-installed Windows 7---windows doesn't accept downgrading of O.S., so the best solution on this would be to erase Windows 7 or format the hard drive and install a fresh Windows XP.

PC inconsistantly uses new or old installation of WINDOW XP

if you got two harddrives or two partions make sure that you only have one os can try reinstalling it again or zero your drive.(fdisk)this will right zeros to your disk and destroy all data, including virus.before doing any of this go start-right click my computer-properties-advanced tab-start up and recovery colum and make sure there is only one option
under the defult operating systems if there is two that could be your problem, click edit and determine wich is the new os.if there is only one try reinstalling or zero all drives(backup all data first)

I formatted my hard drive now my media center doesent work

What is the Dell model name?

Did you put in and install the drivers from the drivers CD that comes with the PC? The drivers are on a separate CD from Windows and need to be installed separately after Windows is finished.

If you've gone through the driver installs, including the graphics driver, and you still get the message, post back and I'll help you find the right driver.

Hope this helps!

C: drive thought to be memory stick

fully format the drive in which you have installed the OS and then install the fresh copy of the windows XP ....
if the same problem persists then your system might have got attacked with some virus like trojan backdoor or trojan horse ...

this virus will not be vanished if you remove the partition and reinstall the Xp also so first you must download a good updated antivirus & then scan your whole system & clean the virus & then install the fresh copy of the OS by formatting that drive ...

any doubts you can reply me
i am always here to assist you

How to install os

This is a little difficult but it can B done :) Firstly I dunno if ya need to re-format ya drive? perhaps first ya could try to "Repair" of Win98? If that doesn't work, then, perhaps ya may have to re-format. If the Win98 is on a SEPARATE drive or Partition this also makes a difference.... Basically ... repair/re-install win98, then do a repair of ya Boot menu for XP, as Win98 sets up an incorrect Boot up for XP, and thus must be "Fixed" so XP will boot & show a Dual boot menu.. here are some links to help you step by step...
