Hello,
It looks like the problem is specifically with the AVG Toolbar.
Here's my suggestion:
1. Open the Control Panel
2. Double click on Internet Options
3. Click the Programs Tab
4. Click the Manage Add-Ons button at the bottom of the window.
5. Find any entries labeled "AVG Security Toolbar", click them and then click on disable. (I found 2)
6. Click OK, and OK again.
7. Restart the computer and see if you can then either install your program, or uninstall AVG.

Hope this works for you!

Sir, i would suggest you to format your computer and make sure that you back up the important files. Ive experienced that myself. i can also remove my avg or my antivirus software no matter what i did. the only thing that i did was to format my computer and install another antivirus on the very beginning. if all the suggestions here by our experts didnt worked then the last resort would be formatting.

thank you for using fixya

I know everyone is saying to uninstall AVG but you can not. How about downloading the install and running it to repair AVG. Once it is repaired you should be able to uninstall it, install your Samsung monitor software, then try re-installing AVG again. Go here to download the install for AVG:

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-AVGAntiVir&subj=dl&tag=button

Run that and choose to repair. Reboot, then uninstall AVG. Let me know if that helps or not.

  1. Right click on the AVG icon on the Task Bar
  2. Click on Open AVG interface.
  3. Change all components to Inactive.
  4. It may prompt you for Restart, if so restart.
  5. Your AVG should be inactive.
  6. Make sure no other Virus programs are running.
  7. Install the Monitor driver.
  8. If this fails try to Uninstall AVG while it is inactive.
  9. If this fails try to uninstall with the ADD/Remove programs in the control panel
If all fails let me know and I will guide you through manual registry edit.

Pleas start the computer in safe mode when you restart tap F8 until a menu pops up one of the options will be to start in safe mode. Once you get to the log in screen log in as an administrator user some computers have them set by defaults as the user name being administrator and then password being blank. Once you are logged in stop avg if it is running and exit it. Then try to uninstall it from the control panels install/uninstall applet.

You have few choices to uninstall AVG.

If you have installed AVG only recently you can uninstall ( delete his registry settings) by doing a system restore to a date before you installed the antivirus.

Otherwise try to reinstall again AVG, and then uninstall it.

If still no luck, follow procedure on links below:

I report here the answer from AVG, follow the indications:

"The type of error you are seeing is typically caused by another
protection program which needs to be disabled during the installation
of any program including AVG. These types of utils block changes to
Windows or a internet browser that may need to be made.

Malware can also block these types of changes in order to thwart
the protection programs themselves. Since you hadn't provided the info
previously... this was the only direction I had at the time to suggest.
I would suggest finish those tests to ensure that the issue is or is
    not malware related.

After running the tests for malware... and if they are found when they are completely removed and the system is clean...

    Disable all other protection programs...

    1. Download the latest AVG Free installation package from [free.grisoft.com]

    2. Run the AVG Free install file

    3. Choose the Uninstall option and follow the setup wizard, when you get to the part to remove user settings, select it.

    4. Restart your computer then...

    5. Now reinstall AVG using the setup file you got in step 1 and update it.

Restart Windows twice before you re-enable anything disabled earlier."

Try this one:
Go to the safe mode
for it
reboot system (keep holding F8 on keyboard until you see the safe mode screen)
then choose safe mode then log on as Admin if you already have admin rights whith your current user id then no problem

And goto add/remove programs then uninstall your all unnecessary software (Ex AVG8 etc)
once you are done reboot your system and let it run on regular mode.

post back if anything changes.

if you are still experiencing this problem then

    Go to Strat>Mycomputer>program files

and find Avg Named folder and delete it. if system wont let you delete all files just open it and delete some of files and reboot your system.

so this time your AVG wont be working due to missing some files and now you can unistall in completely through Add/Remove.

    thank you.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, boot into Safe Mode (F8) and there after uninstall both the AVG antivirus and the webcam drivers. Boot back into Normal Mode and re-install the webcam. Verify if now operational. If yes, install back the antivirus.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

As this is the case, then procedure would have to be the long way:

    • download the latest version of AVG;

    • allow it to save in your desktop. Double click to run and install;

    • during the installation, you wold be presented with 3 options;

    • select Uninstall option.
Proceed again with the re-installation of the Software for my new Samsung 22 inch monitor with builtin webcam, mic and speakers.

If for some reason AVG uninstall failed using the normal method above, here is also another option for removing the anti-virus.

    • Download the Avg installer here

    • When the download finishes click on the .exe file to run it

    • A Welcome box appears click “Next” and accept the user agreement

    • Now it will scan your computer and check the status of AVG

    • When it finishes scanning you should get options to “Add or Remove Components”, “Repair Installation”, and “Uninstall Product”

  • Starnley Johnwells
    Starnley Johnwells Feb 09, 2009

    select uninstall product

  • Starnley Johnwells
    Starnley Johnwells Feb 09, 2009

AVG comes with an un-installer. Go to Start, All Programs, hover
your cursor over AVG and the un-installer will appear. Run this to
un-install the software. Do not use the Add/Remove programs. If you are
trying to install the new version 7.0 then this is an not necessary. It
will install over the old 6.0 version .also use AVG free edition and
think it is the best. Better than any pay version except may be Panda.

you can also try this before the above method to remove the components of the antivirus go to commmand prompt type regedit>my computer>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>software>AVG> delete all components of avg soft ware one by one if possible
then also you can goto>my computer>c drive>programme file>avg>delete all components of the antivirus software then try again

to be able to uninstall AVG, be sure that it was not activate or running on application.

you must exit the active guard or the avg antivirus. you can see a icon on the systray indicating that it was running, so better exit and close avg, before uninstall.

Samsung screen is not calibrated properly. There is a line on the right side of the screen that I can't get rid of.

Unfortunately the line didn't show up in the video.

1) New LCD screen?
Should have an Installation CD Disk that comes with it. Use it if so.
Has the Drivers on it.

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device.

Don't know which version of the Windows O/S you have.
The device in this case is the LCD monitor.

2) What is the NATIVE screen resolution for the LCD monitor.
Look up the specs on the monitor using it's Model Number on back.

For example I installed an HP 2009M 20-inch widescreen monitor, along with the 26-inch RCA ENV HDTV I use for a monitor.

I had to use the drivers from the disk, but could still not set the native resolution in Display Properties.
There is an alternate resolution to the native one that can be used.
The drivers from the disk made it so.

The 20 inch widescreen is 1600 x 900 (Pixels)
The 26 inch HDTV is set at 1360 x 768 (Pixels)

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
In the Display Properties window click on the Settings tab.

What is the Screen resolution setting? What is it supposed to be?
The Slider on the line is clicked on with the left mouse button, left mouse button held down; then the Slider is slid to the left to decrease screen resolution, or to the right to increase with the mouse.

Color quality should be set to High (32-bit)

1) Installing software (Drivers) from the Installation disk, (Or from the monitor manufacturers support website);
And,
2) Setting the screen resolution;

doesn't help, replace the monitor cable with a known to be good one.

Still no? Your LCD monitor is going out.

How to Install a Webcam

Purchase a camera. Webcams can range from a basic model for around $30 to ones that contain a motion sensor for around $350 or so. Most mid-priced models come with a microphone install. Decide on what this camera will be used for and choose accordingly.

Read the installation instructions completely before attempting to install the camera. Although this may seem tedious and unnecessary, it can save time and headaches in the long run.

  • 3 Back up the computer's hard drive just to be safe. This will allow for a speedy recovery should the installation mess up the computer.
  • 4 Install the webcam software. Before deciding to install the disc that came with the camera, check the Internet for an updated version of the software and download that if available.
  • 5 Plug in the webcam. The software should give a prompt at the appropriate time. they are usually installed with a USB cable. If installed correctly, the computer will acknowledge so by popping up a message saying it can see the new device.

How to solve Internet Explorer 8 installation problems

Method A: Reset Windows security settings back to the defaults
Restore the security settings to the default settings.

To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link which is in the article 949220 Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
    2. In Windows XP, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose
In Windows Vista, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
You receive a "Task is completed" message and a warning message that something could not be done. You can safely ignore this message. For more information about this message, see the %windir%\Security\Logs\Scesrv.log file.
Next steps After you run this Microsoft Fix it (or complete these manual steps), standard user accounts may no longer appear on the log on screen when you start your computer or try to switch users. This occurs because standard user accounts are removed from the Users group when you reset Windows security settings. To add the affected users accounts back to the Users group, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then All Programs. Or click Programs.
    2. Click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt (Windows XP). Or right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run As Administrator (Windows Vista).
    3. In the Command Prompt window, type net users and then press ENTER. A list of user accounts is displayed.
    4. For each accountname listed in the Command Prompt that is missing from the log on or switch user screen, type the following command and then press ENTER:
    net localgroup users accountname /add
    5. Now go to the "Did this fix the problem?" section.
Note In Windows Vista, the Defltbase.inf file is a Security configuration template for the default security. You can view the settings for this file in the following location: %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf
For online Help about Secedit, click Start, click Run, type %windir%\help\secedit.chm, and then press ENTER.
    Advanced troubleshooting
Method E: Check for any files that cannot be backed up or updated
This method is rated: Moderately difficult.
To complete this method, follow these steps:
    1. Determine whether a problem is preventing the files from being backed up or updated. To do this, follow these steps:
    a. Click Start, and then click Run.
    b. Copy and then paste (or type) the following text in the Open box, and then click OK to open the ie8_main.log file:
    %windir%\ie8_main.log
Note By default, the ie8_main.log file is located in the C:\Windows folder.
    c. Press CTRL+END to move to the end of the ie8_main.log file.
    d. On the Edit menu, click Find.
    e. In the Find what box, type ArchiveFileForUninstall:ArchiveSingleFile Canceled.
    f. Under Direction, click Up, and then click Find Next.
If you find the "ArchiveFileForUninstall:ArchiveSingleFile Canceled" text, this indicates that there is a problem that is preventing an Internet Explorer 8 file from being saved for removal. For example, text that resembles the following in the log file indicates that a problem exists:
    Time_stamp: ArchiveFileForUninstall:ArchiveSingleFile Canceled
    Time_stamp: DoInstallation:UpdSpCommitFileQueue for AlwaysQueue Failed: 0x4c7
If you do not find the "ArchiveFileForUninstall:ArchiveSingleFile Canceled" text in the ie8_main.log file, contact Support.
    2. Reset the permissions for the Vgx.dll file. To set the permissions of the file to the default settings, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK. At a command prompt, copy and then paste (or type) one of the following commands, and then press ENTER:
o If you are running Windows XP, copy and then paste (or type) the following command:
    echo y| cacls "%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\VGX\vgx.dll" /P BUILTIN\Users:R "BUILTIN\Power Users:C" BUILTIN\Administrators:F "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:F"
o If you are running Windows Server 2003, copy and then paste (or type) the following command: echo y| cacls "%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\VGX\vgx.dll" /P BUILTIN\Users:R "BUILTIN\Power Users:C" BUILTIN\Administrators:F "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:F" "NT AUTHORITY\TERMINAL SERVER USER:C"
    3. Try to install Internet Explorer 8. If Internet Explorer cannot be installed, contact Support. If the log file shows a problem, repeat all the steps in this method. If you repeat the process, and Internet Explorer 8 still cannot be installed, but the log file is clean, contact Support

    Webcam = Not working

When you installed the drivers, did you do so after loggin in as ADMINISTRATOR?? This is vital otherwise it will not work. Also a quote from the manual goes like this quote -"Exit the “Found New Hardware Wizard” by hitting the cancel button. Unplug the VGA webcam
from the USB. Insert the software CD into the drive tray. Follow the software installation
instructions. Once all software is installed (direct X, HP Web Cam drivers, ArcSoft
VideoImpression, ArcSoft Photo Impression), close the HP Webcam window and RESTART the
PC. After restarting the PC, plug in the VGA Webcam and run ArcSoft Video Impression to
    capture a new video." unquote.
    Hope this helps..................sodeep

I bought a Logitech webcam and the sound won't come though. It states my input level is not high emough but I can't find it to change it please

My understanding is that a webcam is only a webcam not a webcam+mic (mic=microphone for sound to be input) unless your webcam has video and sound capabilities.

    1. get a mic
    2. if you webcam is supposed to be also a mic, (I have yet to see one of those myself) you should hook up the connector for the microphone (usually a a red trs plug/connector) to your pc.
    3. make sure your have run the video/sound wizard of your instant message application to test your video, mic and speakers. (to see, talk and be heard and hear what the others are saying)

are you trying to hear what the other person is saying when having a video conversation?
    1. check your speakers are properly connected, powered and turned on.
    2. check your speakers (and mic aswell) are not muted (check your speaker icon on the system tray and check your volume controls by doing right and/or left click on the speaker icon on the system tray.
    3. make sure your have run the video/sound wizard of your instant message application to test your video, mic and speakers. (to see, talk and be heard and hear what the others are saying)
    4. make sure your sound adapter's drivers are installed and your device is working properly (check device manager by going to start>run> type devmgmt.msc the press enter and make sure that under sounds you don't have any ? (no drivers) or ! driver problem for your sound adapter.
