My Dell Monitor model E153FPc will not turn on or, if on, will not turn off. We tried leaving it on, but sometimes the on/off button would just flash, but nothing came on the screen. I am trying to open...

See video here, it close to the same model as yours: http://www.lcdrepair.us/E172fpbvideo.html

Look for bad caps first:

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELLS monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My sreen is dark on my dell E153FPc when i cut it on i can see but it goes dark after like 2 seconds is it the contrast

Not hte setting problem, but more likely to be problem in the power supply /inverter circuits due to bad caps, shorted transistors, cold solder joints.

Why does my e153fpc go blank one second after turn on

Guest, Learn "flashlight test" first!! Point bright flashlight at screen (1 inch away) when screen goes black!!! Is Dell E153FP BLANK n BLACK? Or is it just BLACK? Can you still see very faint image of the icons and Win-desktop? If you read my fixya profile for a while you should then get back to me and tell me what you will do to restore unit to working order. There are lots of DIY video clips at YOUTUBE that will help you determine if you will do the repair or contract-out the work. DIY is still the cheapest way to go if you are handy with a oldering pencil and solder. Do your research first!!! All the cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp-back-lit lcd monitor techs here on fixya already know you have a good chance to repair it. Just do some reading and follow the links you find for all the info you need. 12fixlouie

Is there a way to open the monitor case to fix the backlight without using a hammer and chisel . . ? Dell Model #E153FPc

Yes the screens are held together by screws and clips. you need an electronics plastic opening tool to not damage them but they are repairable without having the damage them.

Check for shorted out transistors (4), c5706/5707, in the inverter transformer driving circuits, common problem for these Dell.

Dell E153FPc switches off (black Screen) after a few minutes. If you switch it off & back on again it will stay on for a few minutes, then go off again.

You could have an inverter board problem. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp which provides the back-lighting.

Power problem

for the quickest fix, you should try a new power supply cord and see if its just a bad cable. almost any monitor cable (dell brand) should work. if you do not see any of the lights on the monitor light up then you have an internal problem and it will be costly to repair. probably better of buying a new monitor.
