HL-P5O63W : Rear Lamp Cover Error!

I have a HL-P5063W also. It is from August 2004 and few months ago the image started dimming. So i got a replacement lamp and put it in. But then the lamp fan became very nosiy every time i would turn the tV on. It would make a very loud sound like it is winding up and down. I tried putting the old lamp back in and got the same problem. SO i figured it is a fan issue and put the new lamp back in. But now the Lamp and Standby lights are flashing indicating a lamp cover issue. The lamp cover is on the back and properly secured.

What could be cuasing the tv not to start up or not to sense the cover is on?

Where is the rear lamp switch? I know when i was putting the door on it sounded like something plastic snapping and/or falling. Im afraid maybe that is what broke? Does anyone know where it is or have a picture so ic an check...and if so any way i can fix this?

If it is the color wheel what is my solution? The sound is defientely coming form where the fan housing is located...but who knows what else is over there.

Thanks for the response. If it is the color wheel how do i solve the problem? The sound was coming from the area where the fan and fan housing is. Is the color wheel in the same place (im assuming so since the lamp faces towards that area)?

As far as the rear panel goes. Can you tell me where the lamp switch is located (and/or provide me a picture). When i was reinstalling the door after putting the new lamp back on I did hear what sounded like plastic snapping and falling. I quickly opened it up again and checked but failed to find any broken plastic or determine what was broken. But after that i started getting the rear panel error. Maybe if i can find the switch i can permanently fix it up so that way the tV can turn on again if that is the problem.

    Thanks.

You need to remove the cover and check where the lamp light is being attenuated in the optical path from the lamp to the front lens. I would try using a 12volt 50W halogen lamp in place of the real lamp and shine it into the optics system, and see where the brightness starts to go bad.

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

My picture won't show after replacing the lamp

Actually that humming sound was not the lamp, the humming sounds come from color wheels when they're going out, and since the color wheel is part of the light engine system and it's not working, that's why you don't have an image, you'll probably ask your self why, since it's not the lamp.. the thing is that the light engine system is componed by lamp, ballast, color wheel and dmd board, so when one of these doesn't work, there will be no image reflected, because they work together

Samsung DLP HL-P5063W. . .no lamp!

Remove the rear cover and check the lamp cover switch. Earlier versions used a black plastic switch holder that may break due to improper assembly. The part number for the holder is BP61-01240A. Newer versions use a metal tab attached to the engine. In this case, improper assembly may cause the lamp cover switch to be extended past its range, either breaking the switch or causing it to have an open contact. Replace the switch with BP91-01231A.

Note that in these models, when reinstalling the rear cover, it is best to remove the lamp cover first, install the rear cover, then install the lamp cover. This will make sure that the lamp switch is properly engaged.
