I replaced the blown FL231 fusible link, as it caused the convergence to misalign. I also desoldered and resoldered most of the joints on the flyback. I ran out of desoldering braid, so I added new solder on top of the cold solder. Not a great idea, but I was impatient to get it back up and running.
Well, it's been about a week since I "fixed" the convergence issue, but I am noticing a red and green flicker of the picture. I ran the auto convergence and also manually aligned in the Service Menu, which is pretty close to perfect. The picture looks great besides the flickering of the red and green colors.
Before I tear it open again, should I be looking at something besides the solder joints at the flyback?

Than this RCA DLP tv have convergence fuses.Convergence fuse is dead.U have a soldering iron, desoldering pump or desoldering braid and can u do basic soldering? Replaced convergence fuse FL231 that near the right FBT.The one in the Middle out of the three useally dead.Try Ebay.com to buy the FL231 convergence fuse.
Your TV has convergence chips that need to be replaced by a tech. These keep tour red green and blue lights in sync with one another in order to give you a sharp color picture. When they fail your colors seperate.
The tv is have a problems call convergence,it dead.U have all the tools like soldering iron, solder and desoldering pump.Know basic soldering? The convergence fuses FL231 three of them on the right side of FBT,a big block of plastic of a flyback transformer.Resoder the FBT,replaced the convergence fuse FL231 in the middle. The Ebay.com sell the convergence fuse.
U have a soldering iron, solder wick or a desoldering pump, and solders?U know how to do soldering?U can fix this problems like about 20 mins. The convergence fuse part (FL231) is dead.Very common on this model of RCA tvs.U can buy this convergence fuse (FL231) at Ebay.com pretty cheap like $3+ shipping. There 3 small brown or pinkisk sqaure look like caps. The one in the middle is dead. But they're fuses located right side of the Flyback transformer, call a FBT(a big black block of transformer).Resolders the FBT too.
Your has probably blown fuse fl231, causing your convergence to go out. This is often a sign of a bad power supply. The fuse is located right next to the power supply. Replace the fuse and check flyback for bad solder joints. I fuse blows again, replace fuse and flyback transformer.
THe rca itc222 chasis has No convergence ics it uses a series of transistors to do the same. YOU replaced the Fl231 fuse and it blew. Did you resolder flyback connections. this is why the fuses blow. check out the article under the tips and tricks section written by me willtab ... see if this helps if not let me know .. i see alot of these at the shop ( i got one right now in front of me with the FL231 probelem LOL) if can let me know i give you help
Yes i replace that fluse fl231 all the time at the shop. at least two aweek. and the first few i replaced did the same thing. I would send it back to customer and i would get a call that the set had malfuctioned again and convergence gone. It was determined the reason this fuse blows is bad conections on the flyback transformer. The flyback is the big black component with the red wire coming out of the top. if you examine the connections on this component there will more than likely be a ring in the solder. this is caused by the manufacturing process known as LEAD-free solder. THis cause oscillations in that cuicit. like turning it of and on really fast. this is a very small fuse and cant stand up to this. so when you replace this fuse just simply RESolder these connections apply a little amount of solder to these connection. i am confident this will fix your problem.
DId you solder the flyback transformer connections..... This is the main reason these fuses fail. THe flyback is the big black component next to the fuse. poor solder connection cause oscillations.. this fuse is only .4 amps whish dosent stand up to that well.. resolder these pins on the flyback.... the first time i replaced this fuse i failed to solder played well for 2 days then came back blown again
This is a very common problem with the ITC222 chassis. If you cannot access the Convergence Menu (either in Customer or Service Menu), the FL231 fusible link is the culprit. More than likely that is blown, which will cause the Convergence Menu to disappear, "bowing" picture, convergence to be off, and will run as "tube CRT" mode.
It is also important to check the Flyback transformer and the solder connections below it. If you have a bad connection (i.e. cracked solder), FL231 will blow again and experience the same problems.
