Go to HP and reinstall your driver. Vista is really good and making sure some of your drivers will delete when installing certain updates. There is one, that you will lose your NEtwork card, graphics, modem.

Could not find media device

Updating audio drivers Select one of the options below to locate the available audio drivers if you already changed the operating system and you are experiencing sound problems.
  • Go to the HP Drivers and Downloads page and search for updated drivers for your model. Be sure to select the correct operating system.
Or download Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver » ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40501-41000/sp40762.exe
  • If the computer is upgraded to Vista, use HP Update to scan for updated drivers. To use HP Update, click Start , All Programs , HP , HP Update , and then follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If HP has not released specific audio drivers for your operating system, use the Microsoft Windows Update utility, or search the Microsoft web site for generic drivers for Vista. To use Windows Update, click Start , type update into the search field, select Windows Update from the list when it becomes available, click Check for updates , and then install any available updates.

I used to have sound on my vista Hp altec lansing. help me get it back .Now it says no audio output devise installed. How can that be???

did you check the model of your motherboard, i know its built-in, and then run the utility disk of motherboard and identify your high definition audio, if not satisfied download at its own website which is model of your motherboard to find the driver software of your high definition audio card. Actually Windows Vista redefined and recognize all the hardware driver of your motherboard. Technically follow this procedure, it will help you to run the program normally... Good luck!

Lost sound

Fixed this common problem several times with vista updates.
Simply reinstall the drivers for your sound card, via the system properties console, click hardware, right click the sound system properties, and choose to find and reinstall drivers automatically.

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit-Sound Problem.

On windows, by default , the mic is muted. Go to control panel/ audio settings, and check if the microfone is muted.

If the sound is working , then it is not a driver problem, but a settings problem.

Installing windows xp on hp pavilion dv 6516 tx

I'm not sure solution #1 is very explanatory, so....

IF you want to install XP on your computer, Windows XP will load most of the drivers you need automatically.
For the drivers that are specific to your HP pavilion
you will be able to download device drivers from HP website
or, request a driver CD

When XP is installed [assuming you or someone can do that]
you can:
Go to the 'My Computer' icon [right-click]
Choose:
  • 'Properties'
  • Then Choose 'Hardware'
  • Finally, choose 'Device Manager'
Here you will have a list of all your hardware
If you have any drivers that need to be installed, there should be
a yellow (?) question mark by the name of the hardware

Most devices/hardware will be handled by XP SP2
The default drivers will be loaded automatically
For example, your keyboard:

e83fe6a.jpg

Above you see the window that opens if I double-click on
the 'Keyboard' icon.

For XP to function, you only have to worry about the ones
with the yellow (?) question mark

Or, if you want to add a specific driver, like a Video or Sound driver, but you don't see a yellow (?) question mark
you can still install/update the driver at the 'driver' tab
[second tab in the picture above]

If you need more specific help I can do that too
