most of the laptop dvd drives have slower reading speed(about 2x) and writing speed(about 24x) compare to desktop pc's(about 8x and 52x respectively). ur problem might have occured if the writing speed by which the cd was burnt might not be compatible with ur dvd player. try playing dvds which were burnt using laptop dvd writers. also try changing the modes in which the dvds are burnt.
You'd first of all have to make sure the optical drive actuallly is a CD and/or DVD writer. There are optical drives that only read, for example. If it is a 'writer' you can use the utilities that came with your Acer to burn CDs and/or DVDs. If you can't find them, there are free DVD copy utilities, sometimes called CD or DVD burn programs you can download from the Internet, for example. Make sure you download from a reputable site, like cnet.com. HTH - Marinus
Open "My Computer".
Do you see an icon for the CD-drive?
If not, then you have a hardware problem (no electrical power to the drive, or the "data" cable is not connected, or the electronics inside the CD-ROM have failed).
Take your computer to a qualified technician, and get him/her to install a brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer, to replace the "dead" one.
The problem unfortunately will be with the dvd writer dvd laser not functioning or dirty try cleanng the laser with some glass cleaner or cd cleaning packs if the same the dvd drive is faulty and needs replacing
if the icon of DVD is there but when u try to open it doesnt bring any windows gives u error unable to read the contents then ur DVD drive lens is faulty try cleaning it with a very soft cloth open ur drive tray and u will a crystal eye shiny thing just clean it by rubbing very gently with a tissue paper or very soft cloth which is used to clean lcd's or if u have a lens cleaner cd it will be best , if it doesnt work then i will suggest changing the DVD ROM drive there are plenty of cheap DVD writer drives available on ebay under 60 $ or so try them pls vote if u find me helping
Ok.I got your point. Now I want you to try this first
1.Go up to device Manager
2.Under CDROM/DVD remove your DVD(Uninstall it)
3.Restart your Windows
4.after login your windows, wait for a minute,Windows should be able to detect your DVD back
5.Check your DVD in Device Manager again that its been detected back
6.Now try your DVD again.
Have you installed any sort of APATI drivers??? also have you performed a system restore of the DVD drivers? go to Start ---- programs ---- Acer Empowering Technology and click restore and reinstall the application/driver for the dvd drive.
