Disconnect the device (amp or TV) that is feeding the speaker system. Turn on the power and see if there is still a hum. If the hum is no longer present, then the hum is most likely from the source.

If the hum persists, most likely the power supply has failed, or the output section has a short. You should contact the manufacture for support. They will most likely recomend that you give the unit in for service.

My panasonic dvd stereo system sa-pm91d when the volume is turned above 25, it plays distorted sound, it sounds like I have incorrectly tuned a radio channel even when using the auxiliary input

Hi Gusma,
If you have Distorted sound.
These may be the causes of the problem:

  • Make sure the speakers wires are properly connected.Check the color codes, be sure they are rightfully followed.
  • - Shorting (bare wires touching) of positive and negative speaker wires.
  • - Using speakers with an impedance lower than that rated for this unit.
  • - Straining of the speakers through excessive volume or power.
  • - Using the unit in a hot environment without proper ventilation.
I am also including a link to the User Manual. Read it thoroughly.
Best of Luck,

Benwin 5.1 surround sound system Humming loudly without anything pluged into it!!!

It is sad your having a problem with your
Benwin 5.1 surround sound system
If humming can be heard on all speakers, then it could probably

be on the power supply.

If it is only on the main SUB unit, then it could be the amp itself.

But check for power supply capacitors that supplies voltages to the

amps.Check for amp output DC voltages too.

SONY HT-5500D PROTECT IS FLASHING NO SOUND

Protected in short means that the amp is no longer powering the speakers due to one of the following: 1. Volume is up too loud 2. Equipment Failure 3. Dirty power
Turn amp on by pressing the function button on the remote of a source that has nothing on it or is not powered on. If it still says PROTECTED even though you are on a source with no sound coming in, then the equipment is in need of repair. If it simply comes on normal displaying the source turn the volume down till it says MIN. Find the range of your speaker and amp power by selecting a source with music or movie audio and slowly turn it up till either its too loud or says protected. Be sure to double check all speakers and wires to ensure wire integrity as well as proper connection.

Loud Humming

Many times a "humming"sound is caused by bad signal, caused by things like, bad rca cable, bad rca ground from the radio, or even a bad ground in from the amp to the car.. Wiggle your rca cables at the input to the amp, and see if it changes the hum at all.. If not take a short peice of speaker wire, and wrap one side arrounf the outside metal at the end fo the RCA jack, and then touch the other end to ground, and see if that makes the humm go away. If the humm goes away at that point then you need to have your radio replaced, or repaired. if neither of these do anything to the hum then check for tight ground connection to the amp, and to the car..

There could also be a problem with the amp it's self, but this kind of thing is hard to diagnose over the web, so try those things, and let me know what happens..

Hum coming from speakers

Faulty wires/ connections are the usual cause of hums on speakers. Try checking if the wires are properly connected. If it still hums, try replacing the wires with a known good wire.

RCA RT2280/RT2250 RECEIVER

If you have speaker wires that have strands, you may be getting a short if one small strand is shorting across the terminals, or a poor connection. Check carefully, perhaps even by disconnecting and reconnecting the wires. Also check for proper polarity - positive to positive, negative to negative. (unlikely since it just started). You can also get a new set of wires and check speakers one at a time to see if it goes away. or get another speaker that works and then replace each one with that speaker in turn to see if it resolves it. Good luck
