Question about Kenwood DV-5900M Multi-disc DVD Player

Open Question

Kenwood DV-5900M reads then flips disk but will not play

I'm getting this error message with standard format CD's & DVD's (single & double sided disks) - "This type of disk cannot be played. Please change the disk." The unit is flipping the disks OK, just not playing. Thanks for any info.

I've opened it up and found that the disk is not spinning in any mode. All cables appear to be connected fine. I see a motor at the inside bottom of the carousel but think it rotates the library. Can the disk drive be easily replaced?

What video format can it read?

According to the manual, http://www.jensenmobile.com/mobile-multimedia/?sku=VM9216BT under the Support/Manuals tab, the VM9216BT reads VCD, SVCD, XVid ,AVI, MPEG 1/2 formats. Commercial DVDs will work if you match the device Region with the discs region code. (All or Region 1 in the US). The DVDs should be DVD-5 (single-sided, single layer), DVD-9 (single-sided, double layer), DVD-10 (double-sided, single layer) or DVD-18 (double-sided, double layer). Note: video CDs and DVDs, like audio CDs, need to be finalized by the drive that burned them.

I hope this helps.

Sony DCR-DVD403 C 13:02 Error Message so won't record movies.

Place an empty disc in, format the disc, record a little scene. Turn off camcorder. Place the error disc in the camcorder, turn on the camcorder all the way to play/edit. If this doesn't work turn it to record and try to record. Worked for some of my error disc

"No Disk" message on front display

If when you insert the disk you hear a whirring and clicking noise, CD spins, and does not read, then that is a problem with the DVD lens.

The DVD lens try to focus on the DVD track, by moving lens pickup and spinning the disk, but cannot read the tracks because the lens is dirty or defective.

Try first cleaning the lens with a DVD cleaner disk. And also if you can see the lens from the outside try blowing some canned air on it.

If this still does not help, then the lens pickup may be faulty, in this case you often replace the whole DVD drive unit inside the DVD player.

I have an X-Box that either can't (or won't) play X-Box gmaes but it'll play CD's just fine. Any ideas as to how I could solve this problem?

Hi,
You,ll need to replace The DVD Rom Drive.
The Standard/Original Xbox. only has a single laser unit. which doubles up as a cd/dvd reader. if it,s not reading xbox games, but playing cds. the laser isn,t powering up enough to read the dvd format/games.
Eject the DVD Tray. If it,s perfectly arched shape in the centre. then it,s a thomson drive. if the arch is slightly rounder it,s philips dvd drive. if it has 2 holes left/right in the drive drawer, it,s a samsung. You should have a straight swap over with the drive, it,s only the hard-drive that is eeprom locked to the motherboard.
unlike the 360 which is eeprom locked to the dvd.
try a disk head cleaner first of all.
