I have a 2wire 2701hg-b , and basically the wireless will randomly drop in a period of 30 second to several hours. I've tried with multiple broadcasting ID's and encryption types to no avail

Having problems with 2wire router that keeps dropping the internet. All light are on except ethernet, does this mean the router is no good. Recently replaced the power cord which helped for awhile.

how do you connect to your router? If there's no ethernet cable plug in on the router, the Ethernet light on your router is suppose to be off. Also try to move your router 2-3 ft. away from any electrical devices like wireless phone, printer etc. because of electromagnetic interference. It may help your wireless connection to be stable and faster.

What steps do I take to configure my 2wire 2701 hg-b to connect directly by ethernet cable to my Directv HD DVR and pick up the dsl signal being transmitted by my primary westell router? Both are wireless...

Connect the cable at both ends and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. To test the connection, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> test connection. If it shows not connected then "reset defaults" and run "connect now"
As a basic security feature the ATT DSL 2Wire 2701HG-B router/gateway requires you to enter its pre-assigned WEP key to connect beyond the unit itself and then to the internet. Since the Direct TV DVR HD24D only does a basic connection without having a place to enter the 2701HG-B WEP key it never actually reaches the internet.
The 2Wire 2701HG-B has the ability for one attached unit to "pass through" its firewall and internal security settings using a so called "DMZplus" mode. I set the HR24D DVR to such a mode within the 2Wire unit and the DVR connected with the internet flawlessly.

How many computers can the router handle?

The 2701hg-b Wireless Access Point (WAP) has 4 ethernet connections, that's the physical limit, for that, unless you "cascade" a bridge or another router off of a port.

It also supports wireless. I know of no documented limit as to the number of concurrent wireless connections... there probably is one, but it isn't "published", that I know of.

The "real" limits on the wireless side are "activity" and "channel" conflicts.

The "activity" conflict factor has to do with how much somebody/anybody is using "doing" with your WAP. Sooner or later, you'll see "saturation" of the wireless bandwith.

The "channel" conflict factor usually occurs when there are two (or more) WAPs (or other wireless devices) within "range", that are using the same "wireless channel".

From the "user" perspective, the effects of "conflict" are similar to "saturation", except that you'll likely see more "dropped connections" with "conflict".

Your wall filters may be plugged in wrong. Verify they are plugged in correctly. This is likely the problem.

I was having the same issue. I noticed a lot of 2wire networks in range, so I thought that interference might be an issue. I went into my router wireless configuration, and changed the channel from "AUTO" to a different channel...set it to 11, I think. Since then, I have had NO issues what-so-ever. Hope this helps!

Can i connect a 2wire 2701hg-b with roadrunner cable internet ? I had the 2wire dsl with at&t but recently disconnected the service

It is possible but it may not work as a router (2 wire 270). The 2wired router only has a phone port and ethernet/usb for computer connection. So if you will connect the roadrunner modem to the 2wired, you can connect it to the ethernet port of the 2wire, but the 2 wire will not function as a router any more. It will work just like a wireless bridge. This one setup that you can.
