Question about Samsung Televison & Video
Tv is about 2yrs old. problem started with tv turning itself off at random (annoying, but it was very random and only about once a mth). Now tv will act like it is trying to turn on after hitting power button, but never shows signal and shuts off after 30 seconds and 3 lights on front start blinking. From a little research it looks like this is a fairly common problem with Samsung tvs, but what specifically causes this and how can I repair the problem? Any help is appreciated.

First thing to check would be L401. Its a small coil from the secondary side of the horizontal driver transformer to the Base of the horizontal output transistor. Not a solder problem, You must take it out and scrap off the leads to remove the excess enamel paint the reinsert and resolder. Also check connections on the driver transformer too(horizontal). Next check for bad solder connections on the flyback transformer too. Good Luck PS please dont forget to rate this thread.

SOURCE: Emerson TV won't stay on
Someone told me that the timing is off in the vcr and that they would have to rebuild the whole tv, which is more expensive than buying a new one. I saw on another site that someone has to leave a vhs tape in the vcr for the tv to work, I think that I am going to try that.

It is most likely a bad IR diode underneath the prisim in the VCR, common failure for those combination units. I have used a simple generic diode from Radio Shack or you can spend a little more and get the politically correct part from almost any electronics vendor like Vance Baldwin ot Tritronics.
Be observant when installing these they are polorized and go in only one direction. Getting one in reverse will burn up the new diode instantly.

SOURCE: Remote control for Sharp TV
Hold down the tamper proof button on your remote for up to ten
seconds, until the tamper proof light will blink and light
will go off. This will turn off the Tamper Proof button.
Let me know how it goes.
