I just purchased an NEC Superscript 650C inkjet printer. I have not not
opened it yet because I cannot find any reviews. It is new on the market
since late August. The manufacturers claims are quite impressive for the
price of $169 with a $30 mail in rebate. The NEC rep was at Frys last weekend
and the text was laser quality. I was not as impressed with the reporductions
of some photos he had in a laptop.
Has anyone seen any reviews on this model? I've read the reviews of just
about every printer on the market, plus have read the various messages posted
to this group. Each printer seems to do some things well, others not. My
needs are good quality text, above average color capability.

I recently purchased a NEC SuperScript 750C brand new with rebates; it ended up
costing me 134.00 from BigCityExpress (#). It was
time to change my warn out HP 682C, as the cost to repair the feeder here was
$100 & $25.00 to talk to a HP csr (customer service rep.).
Enough of my own saga. Anyway, let me say this even though mine is not the exact
same model as yours: the 750 seems faster than the HP and I like its software
much better. However, the picture clarity is not nearly of the same quality as
the HP and sometimes the colors don't equal those on screen. All this aside, I
am a grad student and usually just need to print black text only (give or take a
few PowerPoint presentations).
The problem I find with the NEC is that the cartridges are so small that they run
out in no time flat compared to that of the HPs. Although I don't count pages, I
know I could print black ink text 'til my heart was content for six months with
the HP and with the NEC less than a month. Another problem is, you don't know
when you are running out of ink with the NEC...all of a sudden a error message
appears, "Monochrome cartridge out of ink, replace and hit OK", and you can't
print anything (I mean anything) color or black & white until you do so. Where
with the HP, l would at least know the text was fading and if worse came to worse
I could print in some dark blue color to get by. Go figure, did I really save
anything.
