My computer crashed alittle while ago and my cd rom has not worked since. I cant even open it, the light will not even flash. In the device manager it says that everything is working properly. I think the drive is totally bad. Any Help? Im completely lost.

Re: cd rom doesnt work at all
Hi if ur system is provided with two drives then u can use the second drive.. if not then u have to go for a change of new rom..since u said that ur light wont even flash it means that ir drive doesnt detect that particular rom and it has got damaged....

Try restarting the computer. If that does not work you should open the computer by opening the side panel on the left side of the computer and unplug the power from the back of the computer. Then verify that there is a power connector (white large plug) tightly inserted into the cd rom drive. If the cd rom still doesnt work then you may need to replace the cdrom. You can order a cheap one from newegg.com. To replace the old one you just take the four screws out of the old one and put in the new one and reconnect the two plugs to the new one. good luck and don't be afraid you can fix it.
I just fixed a problem I had with my cd-rom where it wasn't burning my cd's. I downloaded the ASPI Driver for Windows from here and it fixed my problem. Without that driver, your cd-rom doesn't get fully reconized by the system basically. Let me know if this helps.
The best bet and I have had several customers bring systems in with this problem is you have to edit the registry file and get rid of the upper and lower registry values once you do this save and reboot the machine it is just like a new drive was installed worked on all of theres one however came back to me twice and it turned out it was a conflict with other installed hardware. Hope this helps If you simply go to google.com and type clear upper lower registry values and the name and model of you drive as above it usually gives you a step by step and happy computing. Take the Cd drive out and take off the top. Look inside for a tiny glass cover. Looks like a small light bulb. Clean the fine layer of dust off this glass and you just might be back in business. keever
hard drives dont read cd's
does the door close?
if not close it.
1)left clik my computer
2)double clik the cd rom drive, making sure theres a disk in it.
3)right clik on my computer
look for a yellow exclamation point or red X where the cd-rom is.
high light the cd-rom
restart the computer
windows will detect and re-install the cd-rom drive.
try a cd
if that doesnt work update windows
also buy a cd-rom cleaner at your local electronics store
clean the drive w/th cleaner
try a cd
if updating your driver for the cd rom drive and all ive suggested then its time for a new cdrom drive
If this happens with all your CDs and everytime, I would suggest you should replace your CD Rom Drive with a new one. After use of some years CD Rom Drives have such problems.
Otherwise a software might locking your drive. you should find a tool which unlocks the drive and then press the eject button.
