Question about Sony VAIO NVR23 Notebook

1 Answer

Vaio keyboard not functioning

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-NVR23 with a keyboard that is not working like it should. When I try to use any of the keys for the most part they do not work. If I tap them quickly I can some of them to work but the wrong command comes up. For example if I type the letter "a", a "h" will be typed instead. Please help.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done except to replace the keyboard. Under each key is a small transistor that sends an electrical signal to the keyboard controller and then to the CPU. The signal is translated and the CPU puts out the letter. If the transistor is broken and sending the wrong signal then the only open if to replace the keyboard. If you have any questions let me know.

"W", "D", and "C" keys no longer function.

tihs can be fixed. you'll need to buy another keyboard either on eBay or Sony - or a reseller. They are about $30 each - and are relatively simple to replace.

As for upgrading the ram - if that's on a laptop, chances are you don't need matching pairs.

Do you get the same result if its plugged in or running off battery? Try holding down the "FN" key or function key and using one of the Function keys i believe its F6 on the sony's to brighten up your screen if that doesn't work try downloading and reinstalling your video driver and finally you may have a video card issue

The fn key acts much like the shift key on your keyboard,,it is used to access the extra key functions which will be marked or written in blue on your key's.
They are supposed to be there.
