Cassette Player is Playing Tapes in Slow Motion

Hey, I've been having problems with this thing. Every tape I've put in it is playing the music in slow motion. Madonna and Paula Abdul are sounding like men. :P The music is even slowed down some. I've tryed the tapes in another player and they work fine. I really like this one in particular and I'm trying to fix the problem. I've tryed cleaning that rubber wheel thingy already.

Yeah mine has the same problem. If you can find the right size belt (which most people say is the hard part) you can fix it yourself. Just open it up and place the new belt on. Maybe takes an hr or so to tinker around with but its easy.

Old tapes recorded wont track speedup slow down

Hello; This can be a very complicated issue. The simplest, is a dirty control track head located on the output (or right side of the drum containing the video heads). It is just before the pinch roller. Clean well with isopropyl alcohol 91%. The second likely thing is a damaged tape, that has a creased bottom edge caused by a defective VCR that has excessive reel takeup torque that causes this tape to crease while playing it. Open the cassette door where the problem is and check the tape for a bottom crease. usually about a crease 1/32 of an inch or more from the bottom. Tapes that are creased cannot be saved. John

When I Play Music through Winamp/Media Player it

That is unusual - pressing in case should not effect play - not like a tape drive would.
Are you playing from CD or Hard-drive?
If Cd - try copy music to hard-drive and see how it plays - if ok - then something may be rubbing on CD in CD-Player? But that would give read errors. Have to remove CD Player and clean it.

Some of my old cassett tapes slow down & speed ''wobbles'' when playing. Is there any way to fix this?

The only thing you can do is take the tape out of the cassette and place it in a modern cassette case. Just buy new blank tapes and discard the new tape inside. If that doesn't work and it's not your player causing the problem then it's due to the tape itself.

Cassette player is eating tapes

Hey there.
Cassette head cleaners generally only improve the sound quality on playback. This problem sounds more like something mechanical; I would open the player and check out the capstan and rollers. If they are dirty, clean them with a mild soap and water solution, (carefull to not get it too wet). Also, as for the tape deck in your vehicle, OEM systems are notorious for eating and destroying cassette tapes.
Let me know how this goes over,

Blocks of noise

Don't know about the slow motion, but the noise is usually from dirty heads. Just like a cassette player it needs them cleaned periodically. Dip a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and rub over the entire path the tape takes. You'll see a little block that actually reads the tape. Thats what you need to clean.

Make sure you eject the tape and remove the battery while the tape drive is open to clean it. Rubbing alcohol dries fast but give it an extra ten minutes and check it again.

Video recorder while the heads were dirty will not change however new video should be clean.

You may also have a bent tape carrier that is putting your video off track. It needs to be pushed or pulled to realign it.

It it's not the cause though, this can make playing back the earlier tapes more difficult since they will read and record in a slightly different part of the tape.

Good luck!

Motor plays at a very slow speed

capstan belt may be failing. check this by removing lid and touch the capstan flywheel when running. if it is easily stalled/slow to come up to speed and or the belt slipping badly then belt will require replacement.

Cassette player on mx-d302t

Hi As you know cassette decks have been around along time, and as such they are fairly robust. The vast majority of the time, problems like you are describing are the result of a broken drive belt, or bad capstan motor. This is not true for all, but if you have favorite tapes you wish to play, you need the deck fixed, and if the problem is drive belt or motor, the repair normally should not be hugely expensive. Hope this helps, good luck!
