Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Web Camera

1 Answer

Get message- "We couldn't start your camera device...."

Camera seems to be installed correctly, but when I try to start a call I get this message: "We couldn't start your camera device. Please check that your camera is not currently in use by another program and then try again." I know someone else who is having this exact same problem.

Has anyone else received this message? What was the solution.

Normal 0 Disconnect the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or Downloaded software program. When the program asks you to connect the camera to the USB port, do so and it should work. Then to use it on the Web, do this.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
C. Windows Live Messenger:
  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

How to make the camera work? Everything has been installed for use except it seems the camera driver is not installed, though I tried to install it.

Make sure you install the correct driver that corresponds to your operating system. You can check what operating system you have by going to your start menu, right click "My Computer" and click on properties. You'll be able to see what operating system you're using, and if it's 32bit or 64bit. Make sure you install the driver with the right format (32bit or 64bit).

You don't say what the problem is.

Start with ensuring you have the correct driver.

Goto http://a4tech.com/download%20driver.asp?cmodnum=PK-635K and download it.

Next, run Device Manager (on XP, right click the System icon and select Manage; on Win Vista/7, start Device Manager).

If the camera hardware is working, you should see the camera in
* Imaging Devices if the camera has the correct driver.
* Other Devices if Windows can't find the driver.

If Windows needs the driver, disconnect the camera and run the driver installer.

Plug the camera in and Windows should be able to find it.

    ok,

what you can do is uninstall your cam drivers and reinstall again, as soon as your computer recognizes the camera, try following the new device wizard and select install from a list of specific location. this will prompt you with a compatible driver for your cam and select that. then follow all the prompts and click finish. after installing it, restart your computer.
    then try it now.

post if this resolved your issue.
