Best Bernina to buy

My very expensive computer embroidery machine broke and I'm going to replace it with a more reliable, less fancy one. What are your suggestions?

Hard to say which is the best machine as they are constantly updating the models and it depends what you want to do with your machine. Suggest you research machine reviews online. Yahoo Groups has several different groups that specifically focus on Berninas. Might be a good place to pose that question. The best advice would most likely come from experienced users.

I have a Janome 350E and love it. It's probably considered "top of the middle of the line."

Lost dongle bernina 180 artista version 3

Unfortunately, your dongle is like a Key that is made just for your machine. You could try contacting Bernina or the place where you bought the machine originally and ask if they can send you a replacement. I've afraid it will be very expensive though.

Good luck.

I used the embroidery bobbin sewing and now it's not functioning

I do not believe the bobbin thread is the reason for the problem.

Refer to your manual for maintenance, especially cleaning the bobbin area.

When you replace the bobbin case be sure the needle is in it's highest position and this will also set the shuttle in position to properly accept the case.

If the problem continues, then machine will need to go into the shop. If the timing needs to be adjusted, this is best done by a Bernina tech.

I have no software with my Bernina 440QE embroidery Module. What can I use. Also what is a dongle & does that come with the software

A dongle is a flash drive, but in Bernina's case it is a programed security device that prevents using their software other than with their products.

Once you get software with this device, take very good care of it as the replacement is expensive.

Other brands of software do not use this device.

Another issue with Bernina is the embroidery format. If it is Art you are stuck with Bernina software and designs as other formats cannot be converted to this particular format.

Bernina makes fine sewing machines, but the embroidery machines and software are not easy on the purse.

For the price of the software, you could buy a Brother embroidery machine that is user friendly and uses a format is is very popular and easy to find. No roadblocks when using software with this brand.

Bernina 180E or Janome MC10000?

I have the Janome 10001 and I love it. I have thousands of designs and they are easily accessible on-line and I can download the designs onto my flash card quickly and the cards were relatively easy to find.
I have just purchased a 180E Bernina. I have heard it is a much better machine and Bernina does have a wonderful reputation and is supposed to be the best there is. I have found that the dealers near London Ontario are not customer service oriented. I attended a store and am still waiting for someone to phone me back with information. I did email Bernina on-line and they have been exceptionally helpful and willing to offer suggestions, and information and solutions. The dealer just north of London was not even interested in helping me at all and basically blew me off. I think once you find a reliable dealer you are ok. If you get either of these machines, email me and I can help you with whatever you need to get up and running. (sews@teksavvy.com)
I am currently moving so have not got the Bernina set up right now. ONce I get it going and use it for a while I can give you a better idea of which one is better. I might just keep both but not sure.
Good luck!

Downloading bernina

Hi, Unfortunately any of Bernina's software that is older than Version 5 , will not work with Vista. There are some software patches available on the berninausa.com web site, but there is nothing out there that will help you if you have any Version 4 software or older. Microsoft really through out a curveball to everyone with VISTA as there is a lot of software out there that will not work in that operating system.
Actually the lowest cost solution would be to get a nice used computer that runs Windows XP. You do not need a super fast, state of the art computer to run embroidery programs.
I bought a nice used computer at a yard sale for $10.00 and it even came with the XP install disk. I replaced the hard drive just because they do wear out after a few years, installed XP in it ann that computer is now in my wife's sewing room and it is only used for her embroidery work.
You might have a computer repair shop in your area where you can buy an older XP computer that has been reconditioned. The few dollars you would spend to get an older computer would cost you far less than buying new Bernina Version 5 software. Good luck...bushvideo

There are some software patches available on the berninausa.com web site, but there is nothing out there that will help you if you have any Version 4 software or older. Version 2 was made back in the Windows 98 days but it should install in a XP computer but you are out of luck with Vista.
