Vizio GV47L not turning on after a pop noise

By vze4kfcc on Feb 09, 2009

I have a Vzio GV47L LCD tv. We bought this about 13 months ago. The other day when it was on and working fine a loud pop noise came from the TV and the screen went black. I couldn't turn it off or all controls didn't work. The only way I was able to turn it off was to disconnect the power. I waited a few minutes and plugged it back in. I went to turn it on and it seem to come on as before but atfer the initial click with the touch screen buttons lighting up it locks up and nothing else happens. No control operations at all, just the touch screen buttons lit up and a black screen with no sound. Can anyone help please? I am very mechanically inclined (30yrs German car mecanic) so I'm not afraid to get into this.

- Thanks but I found on another post site what the problem was and I performed the fix. It was a blown fuse on the main board(not a removable fuse. soldered in place). It only cost me about 3 bucks and a little time and now it's fixed and running again.

Clarification Request

-   Wow, you described our "just past the warranty period" problem on our Vizio. Unfortunately, we're not a savvy as you, so don't have a clue how to go about getting into the TV and replacing a fuse that's soldered into place.

Vizio has offered NOTHING. Next: on hold with Sears repair, then to a someone who was extremely stupid, thus non-helpful. We'll try again tomorrow. It is beyond frustrating to have spent such money on a TV which, yes, has provided much entertainment... but, a fix should really be easier than this!!!!!!! It really should! Online, Sears can schedule us two weeks from now for a $100.00 look and see what else it would cost to repair. -   4zakaren

-   are you talking about the main 8 amp fuse on the power board or the mother board fuses f-1 thru f-4 (where f4) is not showing to be used? -   baberboyz

check your power board, most likely that's the part that is causing the problem.
